Presenting my Director’s Showreel; a curated work of mine over time. These works are specifically selected for what they represent and how much I enjoy the process of making them. All of which I also wrote.

Enjoy and share your thoughts.

Swipe to see the stories behind some of the shots that defined the movie, Courtyard.

In this frame, I wanted to show the contrasting emotion between these two without cutting from on character to the other. Cause it’s a simultaneous emotion – one is crashing, one is thriving!

Safe to say, we achieved that!

Uncle K and Josh have this special connection and chemistry. And in this scene, we wanted to show you how intimate and close they are. Best way to do this? Put them in an enclosed frame where one is counselling the other.

This shot was spotted by my DP – Steve — wonderful guy. And it occurred to me that these two are splitting in this moment. What a best time to put a line of symmetry (the window line) between them. It worked!

The first instinct here is to show @kanagajnr up close as he breaks down. But no — I wanted the audience to feel his pain without having to go close to him that much. Just stand afar and observe a boy battling his emotions.

I guess it worked or… not! You tell me! 😁

I love me a solid one take actors. And these two @toluwanigeorge & @kanagajnr delivered. This moment of reveal needed to be felt without breaking the eye movement of the audience. Just sit with the characters as they dump on each other. If you felt this scene, it’s because the actors are good and we did it in one take!

This particular one – I just love it. No stories behind it. I love love the vibe of it. Alone, thinking about his life and you can still feel all the elements around him.

Now over to you – which of these shots did it for you?

Thankful to @bolajiogunmola for giving me the opportunity to tell the story the way I had it imagined.
