POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Therapists are trained to care for people, not crunch numbers.
But when you run a private practice, the business side matters too.

Here are 3 key things that can save stress (and money):
✅ Quarterly taxes aren’t optional.
The IRS expects payment as you earn. Plan now to avoid penalties later—either by making quarterly payments or adjusting payroll withholdings.
✅ Track every deduction.
From CEUs and supervision to rent and software, untracked expenses are missed savings. Every dollar counts.
✅ Serving clients in multiple states? Know the rules.
Licenses across states, PSYPACT, or Compact coverage may mean extra tax filings you’re not expecting.

We work with therapists all over the US, so we’ve seen how small changes in planning can make a big difference. This isn’t about fear—it’s about feeling informed and supported.

📢 Are You Tracking Your Business Miles? 🚗📍

For 2026, there's an extra detail business owners need to know: the IRS business mileage rate changed midyear.

It's 72.5¢ per mile for January through June and 76¢ per mile for July through December.
But the rate is only part of the equation. You still need to establish that the driving was business-related and maintain adequate records.

📢 Charitable Planning That Actually Changes the Tax Result 💰❤️

Giving to a cause you care about can make a meaningful difference. But did you know that how and when you make charitable contributions can also affect your taxes?

For therapists and private practice owners, charitable giving isn't always as simple as making a donation and claiming a deduction. The timing, type of contribution, and your overall tax situation can all influence the potential tax benefits.

This week, we're breaking down charitable giving strategies and what to consider when incorporating them into your tax planning.

Join us live as we cover:

✅ Why not every charitable contribution results in the same tax benefit
✅ How bunching donations into one tax year may affect your deductions
✅ What donor-advised funds are and how they work
✅ Why donating appreciated assets may offer advantages over donating cash
✅ How to align charitable giving with your broader tax strategy

The goal isn't to give more just to get a deduction. It's to make your charitable contributions count for the causes you support while understanding the potential tax implications.

💻 TAX IT EASY: Is Trading Services Taxable?

Trading services instead of exchanging money? The IRS may still consider that taxable income!

Here's what you should know about bartering:
✅ Trading services can be a legitimate way of doing business
✅ The IRS generally considers the fair market value of services received as taxable income
✅ You may owe taxes even if no money changes hands
✅ Keeping records of the value of services exchanged is important
✅ For therapists, professional ethics should also be considered before entering into a barter arrangement

Bottom line? Just because you didn't get paid in cash doesn't mean the transaction is tax-free. If you're exchanging services, make sure you're tracking their value and reporting the income properly.

Just when you think you’ve finally caught up with the latest tax rules… here comes another update. 😂👍

Tax laws really do have a way of keeping us CPAs on our toes!

But for therapists and private practice owners, these changes can affect everything from business deductions to tax planning opportunities.

That’s why staying informed matters. What worked for your practice last year may not necessarily be the best approach this year.

The good news? Keeping up with the tax laws is our job, so you can focus on yours.

🌿 Honoring Indigenous Peoples' Day

Today, we recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples and communities across the United States.

It's also an opportunity to reflect on their resilience, acknowledge the challenges they have faced, and recognize the important role Indigenous communities continue to play in shaping our society.

May we continue to listen, learn, and honor the voices, stories, and traditions of Indigenous peoples, not just today, but throughout the year.

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day from Later CPA & Associates! 🌿

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆

Today is a reminder that mental health matters, and so do the people who dedicate their lives to supporting it.

To all the therapists, counselors, social workers, psychologists, and mental health professionals who show up for others every day, thank you.

We know that behind every session is someone who has spent years learning, growing, and building a career around helping others. And for those running their own private practices, you're not just caring for your clients. You're also managing a business, making important decisions, and working toward a future of your own.

Your well-being matters just as much as the people you care for.

We hope today is a reminder to extend the same patience, compassion, and care to yourself that you offer others.

Happy World Mental Health Day from Later CPA & Associates! 💛

📢 Charitable Giving Can Be Part of Tax Planning, But the Details Matter ❤️

Writing a check isn't the only way to give.

Depending on your circumstances, strategies such as bunching contributions, donor-advised funds, or donating appreciated property may affect the timing and value of your charitable deductions.

The strategy should always start with your charitable goals, then consider the tax impact.

📢 Meals, Travel, and Professional Development 🍽️✈️📚

Business meals, work trips, conferences, and continuing education can all come with potential tax deductions, but the rules around what qualifies are often misunderstood.

For therapists and private practice owners, knowing where the line falls between a legitimate business expense and a personal expense can make a big difference when it comes to tax planning and recordkeeping.

In this live session, we’ll cover:
✅ When business meals may be deductible
✅ What travel expenses may qualify for a business trip
✅ Business travel vs. personal travel
✅ When continuing education and professional development may qualify
✅ Conferences, trainings, and other practice-related expenses
✅ What records and documentation you should keep

The goal is to understand which expenses may legitimately belong to your practice and how to document them properly.

This is especially helpful for therapists, private practice owners, and other professionals who attend trainings, conferences, or travel for their business.

📅 When: October 9 at 12 noon MT
📍 Where: Live on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube

📲 Set a reminder and join us live. Bring your meals, travel, and tax questions!

💰 TAX IT EASY: Before Trying a Tax Strategy

It’s tax planning season, but before trying a new tax strategy you heard about, ask these 3 questions:

✅ Who is recommending the strategy?
✅ What will it actually do for your specific tax situation?
✅ Is it a listed transaction that requires additional IRS reporting?

Bottom line? Not every tax strategy works the same for everyone. What creates significant savings for one person may have little or no impact for another.

Ask questions, understand the strategy, and make sure it makes sense for your situation before moving forward.
