From The Ashes — A little highlight reel from our workshop with gorgeous footage shot by @brennanspark This piece explores the emotional rollercoaster of facing wild land fire as a community and draws parallels to the life cycle of a forest. @gwendolyngussman’s gorgeous choreography is the perfect compliment to this music that I wrote, and I’m so grateful for all of these artists that helped bring this to life. I had the distinct pleasure of writing and recording all the live strings on the @indigogirlsmusic movie @glitteranddoommusical! Here are a few snippets of my favorite string moments. Huge, huge appreciation for Tom and Cory (@speakproductionsinc) and @thereverbjunkie for having a vision of this music that asked for strings so prominently/frequently. Who would have thought a club remix of Touch Me Fall would have wanted a soaring violin solo played by @mollyrogersmusic in the middle of it?? And a massive thank you to/celebration of @orchidquartet who played all of these string parts so beautifully. From intimate, folksy quartet playing to stacking parts to the high heavens to give us some thick string section sounds, Orchid was so efficient and brought such artistry to some packed, very budget conscious sessions. Thank you @thekiaraana, @callmeyerie, @hellomycello, and Molly. KGNU’s Rodger Hara speaks with Boulder native and composer Daniel Weidlein about his wide-ranging career as a jazz musician, film composer, orchestrator, vocalist, and recording artist. A Fairview High School graduate who went on to study at USC’s Thornton School of Music, Weidlein discusses his work in film scoring, chamber jazz, and international performance, as well as the creative influences that have shaped his music.The conversation also explores From the Ashes, Weidlein’s ambitious new project inspired by fire ecology, climate resilience, and the life cycle of forests. Combining original music, dance, and environmental storytelling, the work reflects on both the devastation and regeneration that follow wildfire.
