Some venues never lose their sense of wonder. Their reception beneath the iconic blue whale in the Hall of Ocean Life felt unmistakably New York. During cocktail hour, guests were welcomed by the music of a live string trio while exploring one of the museum's most extraordinary spaces. Just outside, in the Hall of Biodiversity's Dzanga Sangha Rainforest exhibit, baskets of mini flashlights invited the younger guests to discover the rainforest. StoneKelly Events created the perfect balance, blending fragrant herbs with refined florals to elevate the space beneath one of the museum's most recognizable exhibits. The herbs also became part of the guest experience, woven into the escort card display before being packaged as favors for guests to take home. Every detail came together beautifully, from the exceptional dining by Foremost Caterers and CxRA to the immersive production by Frost Productions. Melani Lust Photography and Daniel Wu Productions documented every thoughtful moment, while Balagan Entertainment kept the dance floor full well into the evening. The Upper West Side has always felt like one of Manhattan’s great architectural walks. Within just a few blocks, the neighborhood moves from Lincoln Center to historic synagogues to museums on Central Park West, and that’s exactly what happened on my couple’s wedding day. Their entire celebration was shaped by these extraordinary places. I first photographed a wedding in their synagogue in 2010. Walking back inside sixteen years later, I found myself studying the craftsmanship all over again. The carved details, the rich color, the soaring scale and a different set of family traditions and connections to the temple. I love that on this day, a handful of New York’s most important cultural and historic institutions were a part of the family’s story, and what an honor it was to document. . . The last pic says it all 🥹 How do you design with red and green without crossing over to holiday territory? Let us show you. From the start, we were blending two worlds—their soft, neutral, cottage-core vision and their shared heritage. Red, the Chinese symbol of joy, good fortune, and celebration, had to live within the design. But with bridesmaids already in green, we knew we were walking a very fine line between unique and “Christmas in September.” So we refined the palette and everything else followed. We grounded the environment in rich greens, deepened the reds into more dimensional tones, and layered in warm tans, browns, and soft golden yellows to bring balance and depth. From there, it became a study in contrast. A sleek, industrial NYC backdrop paired with modern acrylic details, softened by wild, organic florals, vintage lounge pieces, and a tablescape that was earthy and layered. Their story took flight in the details. Hand-drawn Mahjong tiles as table numbers, personalized chopsticks, nods to Pokémon and Avatar, and subtle references to their parents’ green thumbs. Every piece played a role in creating a dining experience that honored their culture in a way that felt true to them. Each piece was woven in with intention, never as an afterthought. It was personal, unexpected and inviting.
