POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
In the studio of @taqwabnali

Taqwa is an interdisciplinary artist who works with painting, sculpture, and performative interventions. Her work explores translocation and integration through material, tracing stories of memory, migration, and identity.

We met through a mutual friend, and I was instantly drawn to her energy. A true individual. Bold in style, long pointy nails, confident, curious, witty, and soft all at once. We talked about everything and nothing. I knew right away I wanted to photograph her, with her art.

Anyone who knows me a little knows how much I love art. I grew up with my grandfather telling art history stories over my textbooks, and my dad taking me to every museum and exhibition always searching for meaning beyond the obvious.

Taqwa’s studio was filled with stories too. Not just personal ones, but layered into her materials. Her work is rooted in materiality, economy, and decoloniality. She uses hibiscus and Arabic gum, materials tied to Sudanese rituals and histories of trade and colonial extraction. In her large wooden frames, hibiscus bleeds and stains, mapping emotional geographies and inherited memory. Even a simple act, like brewing hibiscus tea with leaves sent by her mother, becomes a reflection on belonging and ritual.

Thank you, Taqwa, for opening up and letting me see your world. As you can imagine, I couldn’t choose just one image. This shoot had everything I love: photography, art, alignment, and storytelling.

What do voters really think about sex, relationships, and reproductive rights?

In the lead-up to the 2023 Dutch elections, we teamed up with @rutgersnl to create a video exploring these questions with Sioejeng Tsao, Dunya Veenhof of @shedecidesgfi , and activist Tijn de Jong.
Over 57,000 voters compared their views on sex, relationships, intimacy, and sexual and gender rights with those of 11 political parties through the Sekswijzer. The results? Broad support for government action on sexual and reproductive rights and health, both nationally and internationally, including overwhelming demand for a National Action Plan on Sexual Violence (echoed by the #TotHier campaign), and strong belief that the Netherlands should maintain its global leadership on these issues.
These conversations matter. Swipe to watch the full discussion.

With elections tomorrow on March 18th, 2026 it’s worth considering where parties stand on the issues that matter to you. taken in Amsterdam, Netherlands by @daniquejaspers

To this day, @hoteljakarta.ams is still an iconic space. Ships once left to Jakarta from this very spot, and parts of that story remain: a jungle in the middle of the building, a spa overlooking the IJ, a rooftop bar above the city and a table full of great Indonesian flavours. A pretty amazing place to shoot. Captured by our own talent @daniquejaspers taken in Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam by @daniquejaspers

A recent study showed that 1 in 4 teenagers in the Netherlands think negatively about homosexuality. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. Maybe because most of my friends are queer and I live in a city that fights actively for equality. I know I live in a bubble, but I still can’t understand how being authentically yourself could ever be a problem, let alone harm anyone.

Just a few weeks ago I walked the Pride Walk together with @studiofff.amsterdam my friends and my mother (her very first time, yay mom!), so it felt right to share these pictures and ask every single one of you to speak up. Not just when you hear a hurtful comment, but also at the dinner table, in the group chat, with the kids in your life. Let people know where you stand, so anyone still finding themselves knows they’re safe with you. Your voice matters.

My friend @morrisvlijm started the campaign @_zegiets_ to show that there are so many of us who believe you should be free to be who you are, and that there is total acceptance. Join the campaign and show your support, because together we’re louder.

We need love more now than ever ❤️

I photographed historian Kaj Brens for an interview about his new book 𝘏𝘦𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘫𝘦𝘴, in which he argues that religious violence deserves to be named as such rather than quietly explained away by poverty, politics or personal despair. He pushes back on both the idea that religion is inherently violent and the idea that it never plays a role at all, and instead asks what it really means to call something religiously motivated.

With the Westerkerk as our backdrop, we walked circles around the church chasing the right shot, drifting in and out of conversation about his book, his background and, of course, religion itself.

There are few things I find as poetic as an empty chair.

Last year I said to a friend, “I think I’m obsessed with chairs.” I noticed that in one day I’d taken at least 6 pictures of them. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but with the price of film these days, you don’t want to waste a single shot. So I knew there was something that fascinated me.
I didn’t particularly know why, but I think it’s because there is something so loud in the absence of a person in this object of support. The way they sit alone, or how they’re positioned in relation to each other, makes me think about the people who have sat there, what conversations or thoughts took place. It’s another layer to the photo that isn’t actually there.

Browsing through my archive, I found out I’d (unconsciously) been taking pictures of empty chairs for years. Here are some of my favourites 🪑 by @daniquejaspers

I don’t really do weddings, but sometimes you can’t say no because they’re so special. That happened to me when Bas asked me to photograph his wedding with Eva. Fun fact: Eva didn’t even know she was getting married. Bas arranged the whole thing with the help of friends and family and proposed to her the morning of the wedding. Risky? Yes. Romantic? Hell yes. Eva also said yes to everything that day, keeping her cool and being the chillest bride I’ve experienced. Especially under these circumstances. Their day was exactly that. Laidback, all range of emotions but most of all full of love, surprises (mostly for Eva) and joy.
These are some of my favourite detailed shots that day ❤️ taken in Oss, Nederlands by @daniquejaspers

Al needed some new portraits with a creative touch for her work as a freelancer in the film industry. These primary colors worked great on her.
Want portraits that actually feel like you and still look professional? I'm opening a few spots in September, just send me a DM to book. taken in Amsterdam, Netherlands by @daniquejaspers

A few months ago I met @anastasia.naumkina at an event. The moment I heard her speak, I was touched. Her words were full of trust, and when she stopped, I only wanted to hear more.
Luckily, I got that chance, we crossed paths at the coffee machine.

She told me about a retreat she’s starting with @adis.sophie in the south of France, for women who want to go through a transformation. Everything about her, and her dream, fascinated me.

When we met again, she told me more about the 600-year-old house in the Dordogne they had rented, and everything they had planned for this first, special gathering.

The moment I said @daniquejaspers and I would love to join, everything started rolling.
It’s such a gift when my work opens a doorway for me.

My camera is a tool to get closer to where I want to be, and where I want to go. It helps me see more, and not only literally.
Coming home from this trip, I was on a shoot and it made me think why I chose this profession. Becoming part of someone else’s story, filled me with so much emotion. Being this connected to others is an amazing feeling.

Thank you Anastasia & Adis for helping me feel this. by @daniquejaspers
