NERDS Gummy Clusters… in a grilled cheese?! 🤯🧀

I thought the @nyislanders had officially lost it. Then I took a bite.

This just debuted at Islanders concessions for the upcoming season: perfectly toasted, buttery bread, warm, melty brie, and actual NERDS Gummy Clusters. I had to find out if this was a concession stand masterpiece or a terrible mistake.

Here’s the twist: the candy actually MELTED INTO THE BRIE. That sweetness mixed with the creamy cheese and buttery toast somehow WORKS.

Shockingly outrageous. Shockingly good.

I went in questioning everything and came out wanting another bite. 😂🏒

It’s been 25 years and I’m still embarrassed to admit… I still carry pain and anger from that day.

As a kid, I loved going to work with my dad at the World Trade Center.

The people on the trading floor would send me on little errands and slip me twenty-dollar bills. It felt like a fortune. They made me feel important. Like I belonged.

I’d sneak under the desks and squeeze beside the windows, watching people on the streets below.

I felt like I was on top of the world.

On September 11th, I was in tenth grade when an announcement came over the loudspeaker: anyone whose parents worked at the World Trade Center should come to the office.

I remember walking out and seeing a few kids leaving their classrooms, too.

Then came the waiting. The fear. Not knowing whether my dad was coming home.

He came home that evening. I remember the relief.

But the events from that day stayed with me.

As I got older, I became distant. Angry. Those buildings had been part of my childhood. A place where I felt happy and looked after. Even now, it hurts to remember them.

Twenty-five years later, a mention of that day can still pull me back. The memories. The what-ifs. I wonder who I might have become if it hadn’t been part of my life.

I’m working through those feelings in therapy. Trying to understand the anger, how it’s shaped me, and how to keep it from taking up so much of my life.

It’s a work in progress.

I’m learning that I can carry this scar and still find happiness. But I miss how the world looked from those windows… taken in World Trade Center by @danmcbabe

IM ALWAYS LATE 😂

But today I was 30 minutes early. Might be the first time in a decade.

I was heading to UBS Arena for a food preview of the upcoming Islanders season, and I had to lie to myself a little to make it happen.

I moved everything up TWO HOURS because once the workday starts, I’m getting pulled in five directions. There’s always one more thing to handle before I leave.

Today, I gave myself enough room for all of that.

And I got to just… be there. Hang out with the staff a bit. Settle in. Take my time.

It reminded me that some of the best connections I’ve made happened when I showed up early. You get that one-on-one time before things get busy. A conversation actually has room to go somewhere.

I’m starting to enjoy that feeling.
