2002 I first saw @john00fleming live… still going strong. A master at a 6 hour set. Knows how to take the crowd on a journey building tension and energy through the night 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Such a great venue for it @carouselsydney

A proud dad moment 🍌👑

A few months ago Keira came to me with a drawing and an idea for a story about a Banana Queen.

Today… it’s an actual book 😂

Banana Queen and the Missing Crown is officially live on Amazon.

What started as a little project together turned into three months of writing, rewriting, changing illustrations, fixing things, reading the same chapters about 400 times… and Keira very regularly telling me:

“No Dad, that’s not what happens.”

“No, Watermelon wouldn’t do that.”

“That’s not what she looks like.”

😂

And honestly, that was the best bit.

We used AI and other tools to help pull more out of her ideas, structure them, ask better questions and turn what was in her head into an actual story.

But the world, characters, weird ideas, changes, corrections and creative decisions were very much hers.

She learnt loads without really realising it — storytelling, characters, editing, taking feedback, fixing things that weren’t working, and sticking with something long after the exciting first idea.

And I learnt that an 8-year-old can be an absolutely ruthless creative director.

A lot of work. A ridiculous amount of re-reading.

But such a cool thing to have done together.

Very proud of her.

Getting up for sunrise 🌅 is always special at Hyams Beach but this time I thought I’d see what it’s like from above! Magic 😍 the ocean colours are really something else in Jervis Bay.
