Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, August Wilson, was my mentor during my junior year of college (1977) while I attended
Carnegie Mellon University
in Pittsburgh.

During that time, I struggled to keep my voice as a Black female writer. When I met August at a performance by the
Kuntu Repertory Theater under the auspice of his dear friend, the late Rob Penny, he and I bonded immediately.

That semester, he (and Rob) met with me weekly for lunch and encouraged me as a writer and helped me to keep my voice as a Black female writer while attending a predominantly white institution (PWI).

Last year, while serving as a board member of the Carnegie Mellon University Alumni Association, I met Renzo Carbonera at the newly renovated August Wilson Housein Pittsburgh.

Renzo's vision was to perform August's play "Jitney" in as many languages as possible, starting with Italian with English subtitles!

I have seen this play performed by this cast of Black Italian actors/actress who will perform in our area this coming weekend October 9-11.

We are hosting a “Meet snd Greet”at Revival Wines and Dessert Bar in Fayetteville, GA on Saturday, October 10 at 7pm after the 230pm performance of “Jitney” at the Southwest Arts Center in South Fulton County.

This is what white privilege does and this is what white privilege receives as consequences.
