Whilst I was in London earlier this year I managed to reconnect with Dannii Evans, the creator of OneTaste - a collective which gave so many of us a platform to begin sharing our music to a wider audience in London. We hadn’t spoken in 12 years so I knew I had to record this: we had so much to catch up and look back on. We talked about the first time she heard me sing, and the first ever OneTaste show... and how since then many of the artists became household names, and lots more. So here I am in New York. I'm still in New York. How has New York changed me? I'm louder. I'm prouder. I've become desensitized to noise and chaos. I laugh more, I cry even more, I sing more. I move more. I'm alone more. I've learned how to love loneliness. I'm more direct. I'm bigger. Random encounters are a daily occurrence. I wear big hoop earrings and at least 5 gold rings a day. I pronounce my Rs now and have to say my name different for it not to be heard as Daaaaaaannii. I have learned loads about neuroscience & the brain. I have developed an obsession with protein shakes and complete reliability on 24/7 convenience. I've become more disciplined. I play guitar more. I'm challenged everyday as to who I am and how I want to show up. I'm stretched continuously. I've learned the true value of friends, home and community. I've learnt patience. My heart is being continually cracked open. I've learned I can begin again.
I'm learning things about myself and humanity that I could not learn anywhere else, for this is the city of diversity, contrast, big heart and vision with a do or die energy. It's immediate, relentless and intensely magic. Paradox, possibilities and perpetual movement are the way of things. From day one I felt at home, strangely safe like I'd finally found my retreat in the middle of the craziest city in the world. I let it change me, saying thank you even when I frequently don't know what the f*** is going on. And through all the ups, twists and turns, I am loving every moment, not taking one moment for granted. I feel so lucky that I have had the opportunity to live here. I love you New York, thank you for embracing me as your own ❤ by @danniievans_

This is moment that Cirque blew my circuits. The warm up to a vertical battle scene in KA. It's rare that you experience something that puts you into a state of complete awe because you have no idea how it's done!

But then paradoxically, if that's the case, I/we need to pay more attention to the utterly mystifying bewildering miracle of life that we have no comprehension of in every single moment 😮

I'm in NYC! Thursday 11th Jan, I'm speaking on a panel at the 101st ISPA Congress on cross- generational leadership. I'll be there with 500 global art institutions, and changemakers, repping millennials. (Apparently I am one). I want to take you all in with me! So tell me, what does true leadership look like in today's world for you? How are we going to navigate our way through our current complexities? What kind of capacities will the crises and opportunities of today require of us and help us to develop?
