Malcolm’s pit viper (Trimeresurus malcolmi)

Easily my favorite find of the trip to Borneo was this massive female Malcolm’s I spotted deep into the brush on the side of the road. This individual was the 2nd of 3 Malcolm’s we found in 2 nights in the highlands of Borneo and this was the only one on the move. I barely saw a flash of green through the leaves but instantly saw the unmistakable markings of a Malcolm’s. This has been a dream snake to find and definitely one of the best nights of herping I’ve ever had in Asia.

Boa Constrictor (Boa constrictor)

Me and @eknowsnature did some experimenting with some of our photography in Puerto Rico. These photos of a boa constrictor being 2 of my favorites. Flipped this juvenile under a large piece of tin on a collage campus. It was the first live snake of the trip and all of our first large species of wild boa. These boas are invasive to Puerto Rico and compete alongside the native Puerto Rican Boas as well as other invasive’s such as the reticulated python. Out of the 5 boa constrictors this was the only one that wasn’t dead on the road.

Sonoran Coral Snake (Micruroides euryxanthus)

On a cold rainy night right against the US, Mexico boarder we didn’t have too much hope that anything would be moving. Luckily we somehow spotted this tiny coral in the direct center of the road trying to soak up what little warmth there was. Corals can be difficult to target since they are fossorial and their movement can be somewhat unpredictable. Happy to have gotten this target out of the way early on this trip. This was my lifer and now I officially found both elapidae genus in the United States!

Tiger Rattlesnake (Crotalus tigris)

This individual is as found on our last day in Arizona just after midnight while walking a wash. I had only been in range for this species 1 other time so finding 2 on this trip was exciting. This species has a very small head and venom glad but to make up for it they have some of the most potent venom of any rattlesnake on the planet!

The only banded rock rattlesnake (Crotalus lepidus klauberi) I’ve found in the Chiricahua Mountains! I’ve seen a handful of these guys in other mountain ranges but this was the first in this location.

Gila monster (Heloderma suspectum)

Rare for me to post a lizard but this one definitely deserves it. Probably the #1 lizard target for all of the United States and 1/2 truly venomous lizards on the entire planet. So cool to get to see 2 of these guys on my last trip to Arizona!

Twin-spotted rattlesnake (Crotalus pricei)

A snake that I have put so much effort into finding this trip and was so happy that I finally got to check it off the lifer list. The last of the 3 high elevation rattlesnake species in AZ that I needed!

Desert Massasauga Rattlesnake (Sistrurus tergeminus edwardsii)

We only had 1 night with about a 2-3 hour window to find this snake species and man did we do good. 4 desert saugas, they were out in full force. A snake that I thought was gonna be a shot in the dark ended up being one of the easiest targets for this trip. This individual was one of the two largest we cruised up. by @danny_dinaso

Black-tailed rattlesnake (Crotalus molossus)

Black tails were some of the most common crotalus we found on this last trip to AZ, they don’t need much elevation but can also be found at 8000+. Even though they were common they are still one of the nicest looking rattlesnakes in Arizona. Their temper also makes them very easy to photograph, most won’t even rattle or strike unless you really mess with them. This individual was crossing a dirt road when we pulled up, then just curled and sat while we took photos before moving her out of the road. taken in Arizona, USA by @danny_dinaso

Blue Ridge Spring Salamander (Gyrinophilus porphyriticus danielsi)

Another top salamander target I had for this area and even though I was only able to turn up one it was a beautiful bright orange adult!
