Rest is hard. It’s a challenge to slow down and let the recover. But it’s also important to do. #ultrarunner #adventureready #trailrunner by @danny_endures

Coming down the last few feet of Rat Jaw. My quads blown to bits, having been cramping for nearly the last 10 hours.

I look across and see my wife. Point to her. Throw my hands in the air.

See, I wanted to quit about 6 hours before this moment. I felt defeated because of how bad the cramping was. But @kaybee.running ran past me down a mountain and told me to keep going. As any good husband would do, I listened.

I eventually caught back up to her. We moved together for a few hours, but the cramping was so bad I couldn’t keep up.

She went on and got her marathon finish. Not knowing if I would be able to continue or not.

Seeing her there at the end and getting to celebrate together made the 12 hours of pain worth it.

It wasn’t the day I imagined. It was better.

To be able to chase wild adventures with you means everything to me.

The joy I feel seeing you charge down a mountain, leaving me in the dust is immeasurable.

The beauty you display in pain and suffering is something most of the world will never understand. But I do. I see it. And I feel it.

The example you set for our boys, that there is grace and peace in the midst of the turmoil. That when things become more than you can tolerate, more than you can stand, if you can still put one foot in front of the other, then that’s what you do. You keep pressing on.

Yesterday, when I was crushed and defeated, cramping and in pain, you looked at me and simply said “keep going”. And so I did.

Seeing you at the finish line brought me to tears for the second time that day.

You inspire me. And you give me something worthy to chase after. by @danny_endures

No pics from the race. Just this.

Going into the race I felt great. I’m trained. Fed. Tuned up and ready to go.

Started out amazing. But about 2.5 hours in I started cramping in my quads. And nothing I did seemed to help. No amount of electrolytes or salt tabs eased the cramping.

I was pretty upset at first. Any climb or descent I had to sit and let the cramps ease after about 100ft. And in this race, that’s nearly the entire thing.

So I settled into a rhythm and just moved. 100ft or so, find a nice rock or downed tree and sit. I did that for the next 10 hours.

When I could move, I moved well. On the flats and gentle slopes I ran. Continuing to drink my electrolytes and carbs. And grind it out.

The temptation to stop and take the DNF was strong. But I had a lot of time to think about motivations during this race today.

Why do I do this? Because 4 years ago I couldn’t. And because I am raising two young men and want to show them that even when things suck, we can do hard things.

One great thing about having to go slow was that I got to spend a large portion of the day with @kaybee.running

She continues to astound me. In everything.

Thankful for the opportunity to run this race. And thankful to get the marathon finish. It was a brutal day. But that’s life. And sometimes, even when it sucks, you just gotta put your head down and grind it out.

It took 3 years but I’m here. Ready to toe the line at the Barkley Fall Classic. Pumped to go leave it all out on the mountains tomorrow.

New @mounttocoast M1s ought to do really well tomorrow. And the @deathmarchrunningco vert queen kit ought to keep me cool and looking good… @creeperssocks and @getsaltybritches to keep the feet blister free.

1250 miles of running this year and I can only barely keep up with this woman @kaybee.running She drug me up and down the course yesterday for 8 hours. She met every grumble of mine with a smile and just said “keep moving”.

Every time I think I’m strong she shows up and shows me what strength looks like.

I’m such a blessed and fortunate man to have such a strong and wonderful woman to chase after. by @danny_endures

It’s hard to write a caption for a photo like this that doesn’t sound prideful and arrogant.

So I’ll just simply say that the biggest growth in my life isn’t running or weight loss. Not my bench press or squat.

It’s my relationship to my creator. He sought me. He bought me. With His redeeming blood.

He loved me before I knew him. And all of my life is to Him. by @danny_endures
