Come for the cocktails and stay for the food at Dutch Rules Distilling Co 🍸

This Mitcham gin bar meets Sri Lankan fusion restaurant is a favourite of mine that never disappoints. The cocktails are superb, the food fantastic, and the vibes are 🔥

The menu is small but impressive and whatever you do, don’t skip the focaccia with hot jaggery (a.k.a. Liquid gold) because it’s phenomenal! Seriously if they sold that sauce in jars I’d have a pantry full 🤤

Melbourne get ready to discover your favourite new bar and dining destination! @dutchrulesdistillingco has had a glow up and are finally ready to open their new restaurant 🥂

Headed by the 2026 @goodfoodau Young Chef of the Year @viveikv , expect bold, punchy flavours that celebrate the team’s Sri Lankan heritage along with great seasonal Aussie produce. We were lucky enough to attend the launch event where we sampled a selection of Viviek’s creations and all I can say is wow! Spicy, smoky, and sensational 🤤

Every bite was full of flavour and unique combinations I’ve never tried before. Even the focaccia came with a twist in the form of a hot jaggery dipping sauce that mixed sweet, salty, and spice in equal measure. Dessert was also a winner and I may have gone back for seconds (or thirds) 🤫

The Lankan leaning, modern Australian menu has also been expertly curated to complement Dutch Rule’s house made gin, fabulous cocktails, local craft beer, and wine. The cocktails here are showstoppers! Courtesy of master mixologist @saimerchant and his team of talented bartenders, the everchanging lineup features creative twists on the classics like a gimlet with Celyon gin infused with cinnamon and @dilmahaustralia tea paired with curry leaf, lime, and coconut oil or a clarified pina colada with Thai gin infused with the spices of Thai green curry. Sai’s take on the espresso martini is also not to be missed, smooth, chocolatey, and downright delicious 🍸

It’s a relaxed space with that effortlessly cool vibe that makes it the equally perfect spot for after work drinks, dinner catch ups with friends, or a date night destination guaranteed to impress. Friday and Saturday nights also come with a DJ pumping retro tunes on vinyl for a great night out🎶

The Dutch Rules kitchen officially opens tomorrow night, and they’ll be open for dinner Wed & Thurs, and lunch and dinner Fri-Sun going forward 🍽️
