September 27th means a lot to me.

I’m doing my very first Black Sofa Poetry Special, and I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to create a space where people can come together, slow down, and actually listen to one another.

Poetry has always been one of the ways I make sense of things, tell the truth, and connect with people. The Black Sofa gives me an opportunity to share that in a different way — not just performing for a crowd, but sharing a room with people and creating an experience together.

I really want my people there.

Not because I need to fill seats, but because community is part of why I’m doing this in the first place. There are certain moments when you want to look around and see familiar faces. People who have been part of your journey. People who appreciate the art. People who simply want to sit down, listen, and share an evening together.

This being my first special makes that even more meaningful to me.

Tickets are limited, so if you plan on being there, grab yours now. I’d genuinely love to look out and see you in the room.

September 27th. Doors at 8. Showtime at 8:30.

Come sit with me.

The world changed on this date, because you arrived. It hasn't been the same since.

Your name means "master of the arts", but that feels limited when describing you. "Master of the art of life" feels a bit more accurate.

You exude excellence in every endeavor. You form family from Chicago to Champaign to LA, not to mention Bali to South Africa.

You are more than a favorite cousin to many people. You are beloved across the globe because of the amazing person you are.

The world is so much better with you in it. Thank you for brightening every day with your spirit, for choosing positivity, and consistently seeing the best in people.

Happy Birthday, King!!! by @dannybrainstorm

Eight years. 💙💜

Eight years of choosing each other, growing together, laughing through the chaos, and creating a love that still feels like home.

Happy 8th anniversary to us. 🥂 Here’s to everything we’ve built...and everything still waiting for us.

Almost 8 years ago, we said “I do” and then went chasing sunsets, good food, and a little bit of paradise. 🌴 Last year, Bali gave us memories we’ll be talking about forever. Here’s to love that travels well. 💙🌏💜
