“I miss just being a teenager.”

Every young person deserves space to just be - to dream, create, and experience childhood. That’s why @wecreatewithcare exists: to help give voice to the experiences of these brilliant young people 💜

Part of The Daily Lives of Young Carers animation, co-produced with young carers and @youngcarersnotts

If you are, or know, a young carer, support is available through Young Carers Notts.

Thank you to Arts Council England (@aceagrams) for supporting this work.

What a week!!

So proud to have led accessibility for the entire @hockleyhustle for the second year running. Accessibility isn’t about perfection - it’s about our attitude to learn, listen, and keep improving. I’m beyond proud of our team and the change we’re pushing for across our city. ❤️

This year, I also worked with @itsinnottingham and Best Bar None to launch the Accessible Venue Award, celebrating good practice and creating targeted support to make Nottingham more inclusive.

Then on Thursday, I had the honour of delivering my own speech, panel, and interview at the Young Carers Futures Conference at The Oval - discussing better identification and support in health and social care. Met some incredible people, including Prof Saul Becker, leaders from NHS England, and several new partners, with huge things already in motion for next year. (More to be revealed soon)

And finally… @nottinghamcastle
So honoured to be featured in “Transitions” by Anthony Donnelly (@hoodtheartist / @urbancanvas ), supported by @urbancamerauk , as part of the Lives in Motion exhibition. My portrait reflects migration roots, resilience, lived experience, and the power of creative community.

Feeling endlessly grateful and more driven than ever to keep making change, for a future our young people and communities truly deserve. 💙
Onwards

4 years ago, I dreamt of providing an opportunity for young carers to create and publish an anthology. 3 years ago, I began building my dream team and was fortunate to bring on Jim Hall, a writer who, like myself, has a profound connection to being a carer and using creative arts as our voice.

2 months ago, we launched the first young carers' anthology, "All You Need Is A Pen," at the Royal Theatre Concert Hall in collaboration with the Nottingham Poetry Festival- after 4 months of mentoring 5 young carers.

If you know a young carer in your community, you can support them by:

- Inform them about TuVida —Young Carers Notts, a service that provides practical, emotional, social, and financial support while creating a safe space for young carers.

- Contact me if you're interested in learning more about the creative arts workshops I will be running in the coming years for young carers or if you have an idea to support them. Remember, each one teaches one!

Young carers, parents, carers, and professionals can refer individuals to the service by completing the online form Referral Form, link in the bio and an interactive online version of the book.

You can also explore the service on their website: Young Carers Notts - www.youngcarersnotts.co.uk

All made possible thanks to the support of the Nottingham Poetry Festival and Arts Council England

Wow, the Under The Bridge Walking Festival 2024 was absolutely gorgeous! Ran by @notts_can and @bluetonic2020 , it was an honour to be a part of it!

Along a 3 mile walk was 7 performances over 7 unique acoustic spaces, the natural soundscapes and foley sounds added so much to the story telling!

Head to their bio to sign up to the mailing list or the male social group for the activities in, on and around Blue spaces! 💙 by @dannyjd_community

Are you a young carer in Nottingham aged 9 - 17? In collaboration with Young Carers Notts @tuvidasupport and facilitated by the wonderful Jim Hall, you can attend online or in person workshops and contribute towards a Young Carers poetry anthology and a showcase performance as a part of NPF ‘24 at Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall.

This project is aimed at empowering the rising number of young carers who selflessly dedicate their lives to caring for their parents or siblings. Through creative, social, and educational writing sessions and opportunities, the project will foster your personal development and self-expression, strengthen family communication and bonds, whilst celebrating your talents! You’ll receive ongoing mentoring and be part of a showcase performance. Please contact dannyjd.artist@gmail.com to register your interest.

As a part of NPF 2024 we’re running six projects in collaboration with some of the lovely folk who bring us poetry in Notts all year round, of which this is one. Please do share with anyone that you think may like to attend!

It was absolutely amazing helping to organise @hockleyhustle '23, I’m very much still processing it. Big love to all the team, artists, promoters, ravers, and everyone involved, like I always say, Nottingham is a true blessing! The most magical moments from the festival was on the build-up, bringing in ideas and also getting to hear rehearsals.
Seeing the @uforchestranottm perform 3/4 times in pitcher piano felt unreal. I didn’t get many photos or videos on the day as I was so busy running around to help things go smoothly, however I did finally get to see a few acts, smiling and skanking to the heavy frequencies of @mcspyda , onto moshing to a heavy metal band to sweating my tits off, then dancing to a hard house set by @princess_trium at @queerutopia_events stage. Having A private show of @liambailey.music and the band’s rehearsal at the start of the week. A dream! An artist that I followed since very young, being able to speak, listen and witness his soul, moments I’ll never forget! Then having them finish off the weekend with empowering infectious energy, with the surprise addition of seeing a beautiful friend Jay Thomas sing with them!
I’m gonna spend a month or so hibernating, still have some massive exciting news to share, however I’m mostly taking this time in the winter to recover, process and be thankful.

Our Scene is truly something else, I often call it another realm. In fact I love my new norm, of pretty out of the ordinary moments!

My dad's first go fund me event!

We raised £1065.86 on the night!

Overall we’ve raised £3815.86 for my dad’s GoFundMe, moving it to nearly tier 4! It’s been up and down the previous weeks as different alignments and conditions have been presenting themselves, however this will and is already making a huge difference to his quality of life!

Massive gratitude goes out to all those who supported the event in any way, shared, donated or come along and to the exceptional artists as always, who brought their absolute A-game. It was beautiful to see so many creatives and amazing people in one room! I love seeing everyone doing their thing, and everyone's presence illuminated the evening, making it truly special.

Our notts scene always is truly special!

Big love,

Danny x
