Love Letter to Altadena | It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a month since the Eaton Fire ripped through our community, turning the places we had so many golden memories to ash. So much of the past weeks has just been spent feeling enormous gratitude that our home survived coupled with my heart breaking again & again for our neighbors and small businesses that we used to frequent. The devastation is unfathomable and seeing it in person… there are no words. So I wanted to share some photos from happier times over the past 3 years since we made Altadena and Pasadena our home. We fell in love with this close knit community, nestled against the foothills of the mountains. Our neighbors include bears, bobcats, peacocks & parrots. I would walk through Eaton Canyon, soak my swollen pregnant feet and watch it change with the seasons as my body changed with a life growing inside it. After baby arrived we found moments of nourishment and self care at restaurants like @amarakitchen and @cafe_de_leche. As Ro grew we discovered new staples of community and connection like Farnsworth Park and the gorgeous @altadenalibrary. Nothing can replace what we collectively have lost, but in the heavy and winding months and years ahead I know with strength and hope this community will recover and rebuild. We’ll do it for our kids, our neighbors… and yes, for the bears and bobcats too. #californiastrong #altadena #pasadena #eatoncanyon #wildfire by @dannys.alterego
At around 6:20 last night I looked out our bedroom window to see the mountainside across Eaton Canyon from our house engulfed in flames. I will never forget the feeling of my heart dropping into my stomach as I beheld what felt like a truly worst case scenario- a wall of flames heading straight towards us borne on hurricane force winds. Danny was in the kitchen cooking dinner and I ran to reach him & our son, my socks desperately scrambling for purchase on our wood floors. We grabbed a few things- our cat, baby essentials, and were loading the car when I took this picture. It felt like the fire was already bearing down on us… The air was orange and hot and the gusting winds were scattering embers down on our heads, into the street & our front lawn. The fire department was arriving and evacuating our neighborhood. I truly felt like we were never going to see our house again as we drove away. Somehow, miraculously, our home and neighborhood survived. So many others just up and down the road from us were not as lucky. My heart keeps breaking as news comes in about houses, restaurants, libraries and parks we frequent, history that has been lost. I love this small community and felt so grateful to call such a special place home. Our neighborhood is the very rare kind of place in LA where people still wave at each other. Everyone knows everyone. The past 24 hours has been terrifying and devastating. I have no words to express how grateful we are for the efforts of the firefighters who rushed forward when we were fleeing to try to save as much of Altadena and Pasadena as they could. Thank you to everyone who checked in on us or sent offers of shelter or help. Still trying to collect my thoughts as just now is the first time I feel like I’ve had time to start to process, but wanted to let everyone know we are safe and with family. by @dannys.alterego
Happiest | This year has flown by! Our little tornado of joy is growing so fast and being there for the ride has been the biggest adventure of our lives. Ro’s first two-syllable word was “Santa” and he enthusiastically informs us about every iteration of the big guy that he sees. The Christmas tree is an endless source of fascination and he seems to share my fondness for the twinkling lights of the season. I haven’t felt this much magic during the holidays since I was a child and getting to see everything fresh and new through his eyes is the most incredible blessing. Even with the uncertainty of the current state of the animation industry looming over my head, it’s impossible to not feel like the luckiest girl in the world and I’m both hopeful and excited for what 2025 has in store. Happiest of holidays to you, wherever you may be. by @dannys.alterego
What a wild weekend. I am honored to have been able to design our booth and marketing material for this years @lightboxexpo! This year it was my personal goal to design a booth that stood out and left a lasting impression of how fantastic @bentoboxent is. It is always a great experience to work with my amazing team members, connect with various industry professionals, and speak with young talent. My head is already swirling with ideas for next year. I hope I can create more eye popping magic. 👀 Did you stop by to say Hi? by @dannys.alterego
