One of the things I love most about startups is how rarely they begin the way you think they will.

@eatslapsnacks started in one of the least likely places imaginable: a pool party in Las Vegas.

I was there for my friend and business partner @samrockwell9 bachelor party, along with @jamuels88 and my brother @jeremy_reich We had all gone to school together at UW-Madison. Sam had gotten to know @danawhite over the past few years through his work building brands like @drbombaysnax and his relationships with retailers like Walmart. Sam texted Dana letting him know we were in town.

Dana immediately replied…

“Come on over!”

We expected to be there for thirty minutes…or thirty five minutes if you include the video game detour..

Instead, we spent the next five hours together.

Dana gave us a full tour of UFC headquarters, showed us his office and some of the personal artifacts he keeps there, like a sabertooth skull, an original samurai uniform, custom guns from Kid Rock, and more, and talked about everything imaginable: business, leadership, family, sports, politics, entrepreneurship, and life. It was one of those rare conversations where nobody was checking the time or their phones because everyone was genuinely locked in.

As we were wrapping up, Dana asked a simple question:

“So, what are you guys working on?”

We each shared what we were up to, about the companies we were building (and a few I just sold) and naturally the conversation shifted into…

“Maybe we should build something together?”

And in short, we did.

And we started to cook.

Adding in a few other ingredients and partners like @scottydb @redseaventures along the way.

Lots more to come but for now, you can get some @eatslapsnacks at @walmart

Incredible night! #ufc250 by @danreich

Still can’t get over this.

Earlier in the day, we almost didn’t go.

The Knicks were playing Game 4. Playoffs. At the Garden. The kind of game you know could become one of those nights.

But then real life started doing what real life does.

Tickets were expensive. We had to drive into the city. It was a whole thing.

My dad said, “I don’t know. Tickets are a lot of money, and we have to drive in… but I guess I’d go.”

So I asked him a simple question.

“When was the last time you went to a Knicks playoff game?”

He couldn’t remember.

And then I tried to remember the last time I had been to a Knicks game with him.

It must have been years ago. Knicks vs. Pacers. Playoffs. Back when I was younger, he was younger, and going to a game with your dad just felt like something you could always do again someday.

But someday has a funny way of disappearing.

So I called him back.

“I got the tickets. We’re going.”

Best decision ever.

Because sometimes the things that feel inconvenient, expensive, annoying, or hard to pull off are the exact things you remember forever.

Life is short.

Go to the game.

Knicks in 5! by @danreich

Silly and wild!

And @wutangclan lowkey MVP of the night turning the night around at half!

What a game!

Biggest comebacks in NBA Finals history:

29 PTS - Knicks vs. Spurs (tonight)
24 PTS - Celtics vs. Lakers (2008)
20 PTS - Rockets vs. Magic (1995)
15 PTS - Mavericks vs. Heat (2011)
13 PTS - Thunder vs. Heat (2012)

ARE YOU KIDDING ME by @danreich

Four years ago I went on a wild goose chase to unlock millions of dollars stuck in a @trezor.io hardware wallet.

That chase got… weird.

At one point I was considering flying to Switzerland to access a secret lab. Another plan involved smuggling myself across a locked-down Europe during COVID. There was even a moment where I half-joked (half-serious) about using hallucinogens to help my friend recover his lost memory so he can remember a 4-digit password.

It didn’t look like a business. It looked like a bad (or actually excellent) movie script.

But it led me to @joegrandofficial , a brilliant engineer who once testified before the Senate that he could take down the internet in 30 minutes. He saw paths where others saw dead ends.

We took our shot.

And somehow, it worked. The coins were recovered. #FreeTheta, we said!

That could have been the end. Cool story, move on.

Instead, we leaned in and built a company together called @offspec.io .

Our thinking was simple: there have to be more people out there in the same position.

We were right.

Since then, we’ve identified roughly $75M worth of crypto that people thought was gone forever. Every case is different, but the reaction never is. Relief. Shock. Sometimes something that genuinely changes the course of someone’s life.

What I didn’t fully appreciate at the beginning was the ripple effect.

One decision…a wild goose chase…turned into:
– a company
– millions of dollars back in people’s hands
– that money flowing back into families, businesses, and new opportunities
– and in some cases, completely altering someone’s trajectory in life…with money, hope or closure.

And yeah… that feels really good.

It’s a reminder that curiosity and optimism are underrated forces.

You don’t always need a master plan. Sometimes a wild goose chase, with an open mind, is good enough.

Most things don’t work like that.

But every once in a while, something does.

Many founders think business is about beating competitors…

Dan Reich believes that framing misses the real game.

Earlier in his career, he assumed success meant outperforming other companies. Watching what competitors were doing, reacting to their moves, and trying to stay one step ahead. Over time, his perspective changed.

He realized the more meaningful challenge is not defeating another company, but constantly improving the value you create for your customers. The real competition becomes internal: how creatively you and your team can solve problems, rethink assumptions, and build something better than what existed before.

When founders focus too heavily on competitors, they often end up looking backward. Copying strategies. Responding to other people’s decisions. Designing their business around what already exists. Dan believes that approach quietly drains the joy from building.

A more interesting path begins with first principles. Looking at customers with fresh eyes and asking what genuinely new solution could exist for them. In that frame, the journey becomes more creative, more curious, and far more enjoyable.

Do you think great companies are built by watching competitors, or by focusing on your internal competitor?

When every option becomes available, clarity can become harder rather than easier.

Dan Reich reflects on the moment many founders imagine will feel liberating: selling a company and suddenly having the freedom to do anything.

What often follows is something more complicated. With infinite possibilities in front of you, the natural instinct is to explore everything. New ideas, new industries, new paths that were previously impossible. But that abundance can quickly turn into paralysis, where the number of choices makes it difficult to move at all.

Dan believes the key is remembering something simple: you can do anything, but you cannot do everything. In moments like this, he suggests returning to instinct. The patterns in what you have already built. The types of problems that genuinely excite you. The environments where your curiosity naturally pulls you back in. Rather than running away from those instincts simply because new options exist, he believes founders should listen to them more closely. Sometimes the clearest direction is not the newest possibility, but the one that already feels most aligned with who you are.

When you suddenly have unlimited options, do you explore everything or double down on what already feels right?

Excited to share this 👇

I just unlocked 1:1 sessions on @useintro

I’ve had the luck of building and exiting 4 companies, with $1B+ in acquisition value.

I’ve been through M&A with Salesforce and P&G, and raised $100M+ along the way.

None of that was smooth.

And I didn’t get through it alone.

A few people took my calls at the right moments. @chrisfralic @khlandis @scottbrit @shadowfaxx @joetep @gratnerwpi @williammmeyer @coreycap @jeremy_reich @omichels @felicis to name a few 🙏

They helped me avoid mistakes that would have cost real money and real time.

I want to return that favor for founders who are in it right now.

If you’re navigating M&A, fundraising, or a big strategic decision, I want to help you get to a clean next step in 14 days.

Regret is clearer than fear.

Dan Reich believes most big decisions become simpler when you view them through one lens: what will I regret on my deathbed?

He references the idea of reaching the end of your life and being surrounded by the “ghosts of potential” — the versions of you that could have existed but never did. The career you didn’t pursue. The risk you didn’t take. The version of yourself you were too afraid to explore.

He says too many people stay on the societal treadmill because it feels safe. But safety doesn’t silence regret. Clarity often comes from asking one uncomfortable question: am I maximising the potential that matters to me?

When you look back one day, what do you think you’ll wish you’d been braver about?
