NNS05: Susi + Ueli Berger. Kunst am Bau und im öffentlichen Raum, 1968–2008   Vor allem berühmt für ihre Möbel-Entwürfe im Pop-Art-Stil, hat das Künstler- und Designer-Paar Susi und Ueli Berger zwischen 1968 und 2008 unfassbare 70 Kunstprojekte im öffentlichen Raum geschaffen und umgesetzt. Über die Herausforderung, aus dieser Fülle von Werken und Archivmaterial einen nicht nur kompletten und informativen, sondern auch anregenden Katalog hervorzubringen haben wir mit der Herausgeberin Mirjam Fischer und dem Grafiker Dan Solbach gesprochen. Against the backdrop of increasing destruction caused by armed conflicts around the world, the new issue of ARCH+ “Metaxy : Between Destruction and Reconstruction” asks under what conditions reconstruction is possible.

The title derives from the ancient Greek word metaxy, meaning “between” or “in-between.” It does not name a neutral interval between an irretrievably lost before and a still undetermined after, but the moment when a new order has not yet taken shape in the wake of destruction. This is where reconstruction’s central questions are decided: who is allowed to return, who owns the land, which losses are publicly acknowledged, and which narrative will ultimately be written into houses, streets, and monuments.

Vor dem Hintergrund der weltweit zunehmenden Zerstörungen durch bewaffnete Konflikte fragt die neue ARCH+ Ausgabe „Metaxy : Zwischen Zerstörung und Wiederaufbau”, unter welchen Bedingungen Wiederaufbau möglich ist.

Der Titel Metaxy stammt vom altgriechischen Wort für „zwischen“ beziehungsweise „dazwischen“. Gemeint ist kein neutraler Raum zwischen dem unwiederbringlich verlorenen Vorher und dem noch offenen Nachher, sondern ein Zustand, in dem die neue Ordnung nach der Zerstörung noch nicht feststeht. Hier entscheidet sich, wer zurückkehren darf, wem der Boden gehört, welche Verluste öffentlich anerkannt werden und welche Erzählung sich am Ende in Häuser, Straßen und Denkmäler einschreibt.

In ‘Extrasensory,’ artist @chloewise_ explores how we perceive reality and what remains hidden beyond the limits of the senses and language. Published on the occasion of her solo exhibition at KBH.G, curated by @samuel_leuenberger, the publication echoes the exhibition’s atmosphere while reflecting on recent developments in Wise’s practice and her ongoing interest in what lies beyond the reach of human knowledge.

With contributions from a diverse group, ranging from critics Gideon Jacobs and Piper Marshall to scholars such as Diana Walsh-Pasulka to spiritualist mediums, the publication draws on psychoanalysis, art history, scientific research, and personal testimony to extend the exhibition’s inquiry.

ARCH+ 264 – RUHR: Vom Gebiet zum Raum | From Territory to Space

Das Ruhrgebiet lässt sich nicht auf die Geschichte seines industriellen Strukturwandels reduzieren. Die neue ARCH+ Ausgabe versteht die Region als Gefüge unterschiedlicher Räume, Interessen und Zugehörigkeiten. Untersucht werden dabei jene räumlichen Praktiken des Austauschs und der Kollaboration, die das Ruhrgebiet heute auszeichnen.

The Ruhr region cannot be reduced to the history of its industrial transformation. This new ARCH+ issue approaches the region as a constellation of diverse spaces, interests and forms of belonging, and examines spatial practices of exchange and collaboration that define the Ruhr today.

Dan Solbach (b. 1987) is a Swiss graphic designer based in Berlin whose work focuses on contemporary art publishing, visual identities, and typographic systems. Working across artists’ books, monographs, catalogues, and institutional communications, he collaborates internationally with museums, galleries, curators, writers, and artists to create context-driven visual identities and publications. He is co-founder of Kona Books and the affiliated Posta da Kona bookshop in Tbilisi. His clients include institutions such as Kunsthalle Zürich, Haus der Kunst, Kunsthalle Basel, MMK Frankfurt, Mudam Luxembourg, Tank Shanghai, and White Cube, and artists including Rebecca Horn, Andro Wekua, Sung Tieu, Meredith Monk, Peter Halley, and Richard Hawkins. His recent work includes the visual identity for the German Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Solbach received the Swiss Design Awards in 2018, has earned multiple international book design distinctions, and became a member of AGI in 2025. Alongside his studio practice, he teaches internationally and serves as a juror for design competitions and exhibitions.

Liz Craft! Now globally available!

American artist Liz Craft creates sculptures and figurative installations that appear like fragments in space. They tell dreamlike stories and conjure an atmosphere associated with surrealism, fairy tales, or drug-induced hallucinations. For her art, Craft mainly draws on ideas from American counterculture of the 1960s, psychedelic experiences, and pop culture. She borrows images from B movies, Westerns, and horror films, as well as comic strips and theme park aesthetics.

This first comprehensive monograph on Liz Craft in more than 15 years offers a deep insight into her artistic evolution over two decades. Numerous illustrations document recent works in various contexts. Two supplementing essays and a conversation with the artist explore and reflect on the diverse themes and techniques she applies. The superbly designed volume contributes to a better understanding of Craft’s unique style and offers a rich source for anyone interested in contemporary art.

This publication accompanying his most comprehensive exhibition to date exhibition is Jack O’Brien’s first monograph. Conceived by the artist himself, it complements the exhibition in both form and content, documenting his practice from 2021–2025 and transfers it into a different medium. Developed as an artist’s book it stands in direct relation to the magazine collages in the exhibition. The torn book cover, perforated paper pages, and a shoelace sealed under cellophane make the publication itself a sculptural gesture.

The catalogue brings together the first substantial essays on O’Brien’s work. Alexander Wilmschen introduces the exhibition, in which chance becomes the driving force of reordering, and situates O’Brien’s work within the context of queer phenomenology. Kristian Vistrup Madsen examines the sadomasochistic dimensions of the work. Juliette Desorgues reads the sculptures as embodied punctuation. In conversation with Jeppe Ugelvig, O’Brien reflects on his artistic methodology and language.

The result is a monograph which also formally works with the moments of controlled instability that are so striking in the exhibition: floating, supported and warped. by @dansolbachstudio
