I had a thought…
.
When I was deep into the car hobby, we used to say, this isn’t just a hobby… it’s a lifestyle. Spending all our time and money on our cars, driving them around, slammed to the ground, being loud, going to shows and meets. We formed a community of people with the same passion and we supported each other.

It made me think. Growing plants isn’t just a hobby, it’s literally a part-time job. A labor of love. A few of us may make a living out of it but most of us, we’re here for the love of it. We spend our days and nights and our hard earn cash on plants, supplies, water and electricity to make sure these things that heavily rely on us stay live and thrive… or at least not die 😅. We go to meet-ups, shows, conventions, exhibitions and do trades. It sounds corny but seriously… is this just a hobby? If a painter put their brush down for a year and came back to finish their work, they could. I can’t even miss a day of care… or a year… two years… three years worth of work is gone. So, is this JUST A HOBBY? Sounds more like a way to live your life. Just sayin… by @danthurium_

Alocasia Dragon’s Breath
.
I love blue / silver leaves. Grown from a corm after I thought I said goodbye to this plant. There was a loose corm in my soil mix, so as a happy surprise I got it back. This time it’s in leca and moss in this mason jar… don’t ask how I’ll get it out… probably with a hammer 😹

Monstera Obliqua Amazonas update!
.
The last time I showed you this plant it had just started getting fenies… and those that aren’t balls deep in this hobby, that’s a fenestration aka HOLES. One chop later it’s increasing in size and developing random fenestrations which are so fun to watch because you never know what the next leaf will look like. Such a funky plant and unique looking among it’s Monstera brethren. Definitely one to look out for. Thanks @rareplantfairy for having this plant available, which was so hard to find otherwise.

Philodendron Splendid update!
.
Right after I took this I added a moss pole, the last extension before the third chop and extend. She’s looking so good right now. Small episode of pests on the lower leaves but I what’s new, right? Plant life do be like that.
Sometimes I can’t believe I grew a plant this big. I used to see big leaves on all my favorite YouTuber’s channels and wondered if I could do it, too. Is it the biggest one I’ve seen?… no. Am I enjoying the ride?hell yes! Even if it never sized up more it makes me so happy regardless. Isn’t that what this is all about? The only correct answer is yes 🤘🏽😎🤘🏽

Philodendron Hastatum Narrow Form // Silver Sword
.
I’ve always had a love hate relationship with this plant. I had to regular form, grew it out, chopped it up into a million pieces, grew it out again… got sick of it. I got this narrow form last year and grew it on a stake but just hasn’t thrilled with it. Finally put it on a pole, I’m still unsure about it. I mostly just wanted to see the mature leaves of the narrow version as I haven’t seen any photos online of it. Sometimes I do that with plants… grow them out of curiosity. I do love the silver / blue color of the leaves… so I had to keep at least one version of it around. The one thing about this plant, it doesn’t want to attach to the pole on its own, I have to vercro each node so it roots properly. I guess it’s trying to escape 😅

SKELETON MONSTER aka Monstera Esqueleto. Despite people saying this sizing up easily mine has only taken off this year in size. Gave it a giant pot for maximum root growth and boom, the leaves exploded. It’s definitely one of my prettiest plants in my collection in terms of all the leaves looking nice from bottom to top. Might not be your cuppa tea but it’s mine and I love it!

I met Jan @sydneyplantguy at PlantCon. Was I nervous af… yes 🤣. Did I drive 3 hours because I thought this was gonna be the only time I was ever gonna meet him… yes 🤣. So cool to meet someone you’ve watched for HOURS on your TV and got you into moss poles and most of the plants you grow. What a nice guy, too. I was looking at him talking like… you’re a real person and you’re like a foot away from me😅 anyway, I’m a fanboy, i don’t care, love the guy and i met him so I’m gonna be happy about it and i don’t care what anyway thinks. Plantcon was cool. I attended seminar on Fertilizer and learned some cool stuff. Got to meet and hang out with @my_life_with_plants, what a treat. I was strong and resisted buying anything which I’m gonna pat myself on the back for because I literally don’t have any space for any new plants. I left after 4 hours and cruised the city, grabbed some good food and drove home feeling happy. What a good day.

Hoya Carnosa Compacta, nuff said.
.
During summer my Hoyas are constantly in bloom… which is so messy. I feel like no one talks about that. Seriously, stepping on a dried up Hoya bloom is like stepping on a Lego. Anyway, this one is in bloom right now and so beautiful with its cylindrical blooms blending into the knotted leaves.

If you want to see the plant room, wait until end! Anyway…here’s a little tour of my house for summer 2026. I had to cut it short because I was getting too long and obviously I’m a crazy person with too many plants all over my house. Sorry to my plants that didn’t make the final cut, maybe next year guys. If you watch it until the end you’re a real one.
