A good coat closet clean-out meant that we could audit all of our shoes from over the years and purge!

Between the two of us we had more than 50 pairs 😱 About half were donated and the other half sees the light of day again 😄

What’s scarier than monsters under the bed? 🧟‍♂️🤔

A MESSY CLOSET 😓

After we first moved in, this was the catch-all closet. Everything that didn’t have a dedicated space got tossed into here.

Random coats, yoga mats, shoes, broom and dustpan, more shoes, leftover plastic vinyl from a project, empty boxes…

The things we used often got pushed to the front… dog food, the same 4 pairs of shoes, broom, and our rain jackets.

The coats in the back? Forget about it. The random vase from my parent’s house? Good luck finding that.

It wasn’t until one day when I was looking for a specific pair of shoes that I knew was in there. I found one shoe, but not the other. I spent a good 15 minutes SEARCHING for the other shoe.

Took almost everything out trying to find it, throwing things into the foyer, SWEATING, looking at the time realizing how late I am now…

This was the “OKAY NOW WE’RE DOING THIS” moment. 💡

We knew we wanted to get creative with the the amount of storage space this closet has, but I felt like we couldn’t start until we knew what exactly was in here.

So, CUE THE PURGE AND CAFFEINE! ☕️☕️☕️

We took everything out, came across shoes we completely forgot about, donated the ones that don’t spark joy, along with the rest of items that magically ended up here.

Does this sound like Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge to you? “Everything that’s lost other places, ends up here. The things that are lost here, go poof.” Where my nostalgic DCOM peeps at?

Anyway, here we are. With a hallway full of stuff and a blank canvas to work with! I’m super excited to share the progress we make to this closet!

Even though the laundry supplies are hidden behind this cabinet door, we still wanted to make it look cute! It definitely makes doing laundry a little bit more fun!

We came across these two jars from the home section of @rossdressforless and I found the perfect matching wooden scooper on @amazon!

Watered from the bottom, now we here!

I always have a fear of either overwatering or under watering my plants, and it’s so hard to tell sometimes!
I read up on this method called bottom watering where the plants soak up just enough water that it needs through the bottom of the pot.
.
.
“When you water potted plants from the bottom up, their roots get stronger because they’re always growing directly down toward the moisture. Plus, you’ll always know the moisture in the potting soil reaches all the way to the bottom of your plants’ roots. When you do it correctly, this method is suitable for any potted plant, both indoors and out.”
.
.
Step 1: Fill your sink or container with enough water that it will reach the bottom of the soil in your planter.
.
.
Step 2: Place your plants in the water.
.
.
Step 3: Let the plants sit in their bath for about 15-20 minutes before you check on them
.
.
Step 4: Drain the water out of your sink or pull your plants out of the container. Be sure to let your plants drain out the excess water. AND NOTE: They’ll be much heavier with the water weight, so watch your back and check your form! 💪🏼

Goodbye bulbs, hello LED! 👋🏼

Another great FB marketplace find! Someone was getting rid of a whole box of these LED recessed light replacements, which was the PERFECT amount for our kitchen and living room! 💡

They were super easy to install. They each have an attachment that screws right into the existing socket. The light has metal arms that swing out and lock right into place inside the housing unit. 💪

Not only are these energy efficient, but they give off much more light than the regular bulbs and they look super sleek when they are not in use! 🌎 by @dantons_home
