What a blessing in the midst of trying times. Last night, my dear BROADBEND, ARKANSAS director text me that I was nominated for The Drama League’s Distinguished Performance Award for my work as Ruby. I’m so grateful to have worked with this creative team and @transportgrp. I’m in the category alongside stars I’ve revered in a seat in my living room, at the movies, or at the theater. When someone says, “It’s an honor just to be nominated”, believe them. Haha ❤️🙏🏾 taken in Brooklyn, New York by @danyelfulton

I will be commemorating my very deep feelings for closing in a post or two as I’m still processing so much, but FIRST…

I heard #noigsolafadiran say to someone outside my dressing room, “Angela Bassett was here tonight.”

Cut to me asking @pac_nyc Artistic Director Bill Rauch to introduce me. He held my hand, and I did.

I’d like to shamelessly say what she said to me😂: “…Your voice is so beautiful, and your stage presence…everything... I wanted to meet you so thank you Bill…”💀

I was nervous and trying to keep it cool but simultaneously felt like I was talking to a girlfriend. Wow.

I didn’t get to say all I wanted to. I didn’t want to scare you lol But if you ever see this @im.angelabassett, Our Queen, Thank you for what you’ve done and who you ARE. You are all of our blueprint. The epitome. The foundation. The ultimate example of grace, power, professionalism, longevity, talent and all around fierce black woman MAGIC. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.

I also didn’t realize she was POSING on me like that until I saw the pictures back!!! 😍🤩 She was like Girl take off this coat! Then proceeds to help me do so. 😂🥹 Ms. Bassett has taught me from afar and in person. For the next two days I came with outfits and poses READY! 😂

Dear Mrs. Ida Bell Wells - Barnett,

Portraying you has been one of the largest and most sacred honors of my Life. I get overcome thinking about it. Your power and resilience was otherworldly, yet, you were flesh and blood like all of us. Human. Woman. How you were able to endure so much hate and still fight so very fiercely is a mystery to all of us - but you did, and because of that, We Are.

I’m sorry that this world continues to do everything it can to undo your tireless work, but as much as it tries, it will never. Ever. Your fight came from pure love and there is Nothing greater to defeat it.

You have easily become one of my idols and I will be gleaning from your example for the rest of my days.

A legendary Chicago woman and civil rights leader is portrayed on stage as part of a Broadway show in Chicago this week. I always enjoy your city.

I received a phone call from Suffs press team the other day asking if I was comfortable with filling in for a performance that was happening in 4 hours. It was for Congressional night with the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum at the
National Museum of American History.
I’d just got off from 3 back to back press interviews for Chicago and was prepared to “take my wig off” and lay down. Instead I replied, “Let’s do it”, which is normally uncharacteristic of me. I’d be too nervous at such short notice, especially for a song I haven’t sung alone in months. However, a wonderful change has happened and I am embracing it.

Thank you for all the love in my stories. 🥹
