Being a big sister is a calling and I say it all the time: I would be a completely different person if @yvonne_pierrette wasn’t my sister 🫠 The women in my life have taught how to live, but Yvy? She’s quite literally held my hands while I built my entire personality from scratch. She’s let me sit front row to her wins and her stumbles so my own path could be smoother. She’s seen my shortcomings in 4K, yet still offers me the most grace and the highest expectations (expectations I dare not slack on😆) I promised myself this year I’d skip the sentimental speech and just talk about how classy, brilliant, fierce-spirited, and stunning you are… crickets, clearly, I’m nailing it 😵‍💫. To be fair, everyone sees the beauty and brains, but few witness the behind-the-scenes view of how much you pour into the people you love and choose. And it is my heart’s desire that you experience twice as much poured into you by your people. Happy birthday to my soul sister. Quick gratitude post I remember traveling to Utrecht for this shoot on a cold spring morning. It was my first time meeting the photographer in person-a friend of another wonderful photographer I’d worked with. The location-a tiny apartment in the heart of a blossoming Utrecht. I drank loads of coffee and looked out the window a lot because I was working with a heavy heart. Fast forward, one of the highlights of February was @ibisbookcorner sending me Adorah Nwaorah’s latest book cover for House Woman. I’m usually short of words when I see the end results of these collaborations but for the first time I actually have a mouth full of things to say: Thank you thank you thank you. To God and the entire team of creatives that bring these exceptional ideas to life @thomasandp @_icproduction Commercial modeling contributed to financing a decent part of my education. New year, New shimmer! Guess who’s back, dressed in black, and walking to the nearest clothing store? __ Truth is, I ordinarily wouldn’t wear shimmers but this coat caught me off guard 😩 And when it comes down to fashion or just looking/feeling good, I am team-use what you have, team try something new, team it’s about the fit but it’s also about you 😏 Oh and of course, Team Outfit Repeatuurrrrrr . If I got a coin for every time my friends/family saw me in an Ad I’ll be rich🤭 While there are multiple opportunities in modeling, today let’s talk about Commercial modeling! Unlike Editorials and Runway, for Commercials, models sell a relatable lifestyle, product or service to the everyday consumer. This is the reason they’re often in advertisements, on billboards, catalogs and even social media ads 🌟 My first photo shoot ever was for a commercial with the amazing @sergefilimonov and it was a perfect launch! No pressure, directions are often given, makeup is as moderate as the theme and you can try out almost everything while coordinating yourself naturally. So, if you ever wondered how to harass your family and friends 😇 or start out as a model, I highly recommend making yourself visible to commercial photographers/scouts. Social media is a powerful tool for this!
