With a broken heart, I’m so hurt to announce I said goodbye to Baby Sweetie at 5:08 a.m. this morning. For 18 very healthy years, this beautiful soul has been with me every step of my journey—from Murray to Hampton, she experienced it all with me. Sweetie was a brilliant and peculiar creature. Only up until a few years ago, Sweetie would catch anything you threw at her; she was the original Air Bud. She knew how to make every moment magical, and she was the most precious angel God has given me. I’m going to miss our telepathic conversations and all of our shenanigans. She’s been my shadow for 18 years, so the thought of her not experiencing life with me is hard for me to process.I’m a very private and strong person. I’ve experienced a lot and survived two emergency surgeries and my body shutting down. This is the first time I’ve been left broken by adversity. I’m navigating grief, and I’m learning how to regulate such heavy emotions. I’m so grateful for the memories. I’m grateful that I was able to let her experience college life. I’m grateful I chose cuddling with her over partying. I’m grateful God brought us together, and I got to experience the purest love I’ve ever known.With time, I’ll be myself again. With time, my heart and spirit will heal. Thank God for my support system! Please keep me in prayer as I navigate not having my best friend, my soulmate, and my heart personified in my life after 18 beautiful years. She passed on when all of the planets are in alignment…. Happy Juneteenth. 🖤❤️💚As people of melanin, we are mirrors for one another. The way we speak to each other, support each other, uplift each other, and show up for each other shapes the future we are building together. It is time to release division, comparison, and the wounds that have kept us disconnected. It is time to recognize that another person’s light does not diminish our own. When one of us rises, we all rise.Let us choose community over competition. Healing over hurt. Unity over division. Love over fear. May we honor the sacrifices of those who came before us by becoming the generation that heals, builds, creates, and stands together. Black excellence is more than access to rooms. It is spiritual alignment. It is integrity in love. It is protecting her crown without asking her to shrink. It is protecting our brothers without expecting them to carry every burden alone. I am hollow. I truly don’t have the capacity to understand or process this. Receiving so much news of death has shattered me, and I’m trying to find my way through it.My auntie, my Godmommy Brenda, was my everything. She always had my back, made time for me, and loved me deeply. She held my hand when I didn’t think I would survive my emergency surgery, sat with me in the hospital, and poured into me when I needed it most. I love her so much.I had just texted her, excited to share how God has been repositioning my life. I was planning to call her before my flight and surprise her with flowers for her birthday next week.This loss is teaching me the importance of presence and loving people while they are here. Grief has been trying to kill me since Sweetie’s passing. I don’t know how to make sense of any of this right now. This time last year, I decided to bet on myself and step into a new industry. After praying with my cousin and her friends, I chose to leave my comfort zone, let God lead, and follow the passion He placed on my heart. Coming from a background in Journalism and Communication with a minor in Film Studies at Hampton University, storytelling has always been a part of me. Through scriptwriting, animation, and film studies, I always knew I would one day create my own voice-acting series.When God placed an ad for @voicelings featuring my childhood hero, @tarastrong , in front of me, I knew it was my moment to step into the next chapter. Receiving a scholarship and support from someone I admired for so many years meant the world to me. It’s been a year since my life changed, and I’m deeply grateful to be a Voicelings. These beautiful artists bring characters to life that inspire, comfort, and create generational joy for families everywhere.Coming from a former tech VP background in metaverse development and AI ethics, I’ve witnessed both the beauty and the challenges AI brings to creatives. Even in tech, I still found myself writing scripts and doing voiceover work because storytelling has always been woven into my purpose. Now I find myself merging both worlds, advocating for ethical AI utilization while shining a light on the brilliance of voice actors and the creatives behind the stories that shape us. AI can assist, but it cannot replace the heart and soul that real artists bring into this world. I’m proud to be a Voicelings and grateful to stand beside such a beautiful community.
