POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Another community institution died this weekend after nearly 20 years in operation, a casualty of a rent increase on a lease renewal. RollerJam USA was a place where regulars came week after week for years to skate and dance to old and new hits under the large disco ball that hung in the center of the rink.

I wonder what all those regulars, who oftentimes came alone to escape and let go, will now do on their Saturday nights. We oftentimes don’t think about the affordability of commercial rents and the impact it has on communities, the local economy and how our cities are shaped…something to think about more.

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of spending the afternoon with @mlowenyc, a playwright who coaches rabbis on how to write engaging and inspiring sermons, for the @nytimes. For these High Holidays, she’s been coaching 16 rabbis on writing 33 sermons!

Thanks @andrewhinderaker for the assignment! by @darayaskil

The 28th week of anti-government protests in Tel Aviv last night. Close to 400,000 people across the country demonstrated ahead of a critical week where the second and third parliamentary votes on the judicial reform bill are expected to be held. The judicial reform bill seeks to eliminate the Supreme Court’s ability to block government decisions it deems unreasonable.
