I wrote this song back in 2021, recorded it with just my laptop and a crappy microphone, and I’ve only shared it with a handful of people…. I always meant to record it properly in a studio and all that, but there’s something about this recording that captures the moment I was in and the spirit of the song.

I fell in love with the storytelling of folk music as a wee lad and this was my attempt at writing something that transcended the present moment and spoke to the timeless.

I was going to let it gather dust but I showed it to a dear friend the other day and she told me firmly that I should share it with more people even if doing so was a little scary. So that’s what I’m doing. Maybe it’ll give me the kick in the bum I need to write more. Enjoy! ✨❤️☺️ by @darcy_kent

Some context for the fifth slide - Christmas beetle populations in Victoria have been decimated by habitat loss, so they don’t herald the festive season in anywhere near the numbers they used to. Dad decided to take things into his own hands and provide some rotting logs in the backyard so their babies could grow up safely and with plenty of food, and on Christmas Day he checked the woodpile.. and voila. Best Christmas present ever. Look after nature and it’ll look after you ✨

Thrilled to be a part of the @melbtheatreco 2026 Season, telling a story about a defining moment in Melbourne’s history. I lived under the shadow of the west gate bridge in Spotswood until I was 6 years old so some of my earliest memories are linked to that place.

16 year old Darcy would be cranking Daft Punk as loud as he could and cheering at the top of his lungs if he knew this is what he’d be doing at 33.

Award-winning director Iain Sinclair (A View from the Bridge) returns to Melbourne Theatre Company to helm this haunting and compassionate new work by Dennis McIntosh – a powerful retelling of a defining moment in Australian history.
Screen veterans Steve Bastoni (Police Rescue, The Matrix Reloaded), Daniela Farinacci (Lantana), Logie Award winner Lachy Hulme (Romper Stomper, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) and Darcy Kent (New Gold Mountain) lead a powerhouse cast in this searing retelling of a foundational Melbourne story.
On 15 October 1970, dozens of workers were mid-construction on Melbourne’s West Gate Bridge when it collapsed in what is still Australia’s deadliest industrial accident. Thirty-five men were killed as countless more workers and families were left forever changed.
Young Scrapper is a mouthy labourer born into the construction union. When he’s teamed up with veteran welder Vittorio, his attitude starts to improve. But as disquiet mounts about working conditions and questionable safety measures, their lives are put on the line. With increasing pressure to get the bridge finished, the engineers scramble to placate the workers and keep things moving, but none of them have ever built a steel bridge before – let alone one this size. I am monumentally proud of this show. We worked so hard to bring this bucking bull of a play to the @ensembletheatre stage, and I feel so lucky to perform it for another three weeks up here in Sydney. The creative team is amazing, and the cast I’m alongside is incredible too. Come along if you can, this one will be seared into my memory forever.
