POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
1) A woman with a puppet of herself. 2) The shifting of a Portuguese tide and fishing docks. 3) Back when I was taking photos for a newspaper. Queens 2007. 4) Scott Bourne. I’ve had some of the greatest nights of my life with this guy. I love the way he thinks, the way he sees the world, his humor. 2010? What a blur that trip was (In a good way) 5) Girl with phone on the ground. 6) On a day of walking with the camera in the Loop, sometimes my favorite photo of the roll is one I’ve totally forgotten about. Something I cant immediately look back on. Keep it moving. Its boring, nothing really going on. Yet still, it makes me happy. From the sidewalk square to silence. 7) The trick is trying to see if you can create something artistic you’re happy with while sitting there just doing nothing in your backyard lol. 8) Karl Lagerfeld LES 2009-ish. 9) The best things in life are free, but you can give them to the birds and bees. I want money. 10) I like the way this little girl is being held in the air and the painting almost looks identical to her. Is it her? 11) I took my daughter to the circus. One of the best things about being a dad is you’re kind of revisiting childhood a bit. “C’mon lets go to the Carnival. Lets go to the circus. You got your flashlight? Let’s go exploring.” 12) Nathan Flood - Mars Bar 2008 13) Aaron Szott shredded so hard. He went so fast and some tricks he was literally flying. I was later his roomate at my first apartment in NYC. This is from 1998 at W-bumps also called “Scum Banks” 14) The big man himself… Santa if you’re reading this… Next year I want a year long membership to #kingspa… I don’t ask for much y’know. by @dardelle

1) I served Anthony Bourdain a cake and about 10 bottles of O.B. beer @momolongplay Ssam Bar. Afterward I said, “Heading home to relax?” He laughed and shockingly said, “No, we’re filming another episode tonight.” #anthonybourdain
2) SMITH. The legendary supersonic mystery man himself. 2006. #sanesmith
3) Fall 2025 I flew to Spain for 1 weekend to see one of my best friends get married. I took photos all weekend and here’s one of them. He doesn’t have social media so it’s about time I send him some prints. 💕
4) I have so many memories of the large abstract Picasso sculpture at Daley Plaza. I grew up sliding down it as a kid, my mom worked in the Daley Center my entire childhood, and later I skateboarded on it (as I’m sure Picasso would’ve wanted) and got arrested for it at 14. It’s always been a symbol in my life that I keep returning to. If you walk by on a weekend this guy is usually out there soaking up the sun.
5) NYC gives you these little moments and then bam—they’re gone. 6) I was on my way to Anita’s birthday, the kids were sitting staring out the back window and I took this picture. Tony was in town from Nashville and he said “Whoa, you got a little Norman Rockwell moment.” And I think he was spot on. There’s so much innocence in here. Its just kids looking out the window but I always, always try to get in the mindset of how a child thinks so I can get on their level. Though it’s impossible I try to think, “Ok he’s just so excited a dog is walking past. A dog with spots. A dog with spots is sniffing around the flowers the neighbors just planted and a fire truck with sirens on just went past the house.” It’s all so exciting. I try not think about how he could get hurt or thissa or thatta. I try to imagine I’m just seeing everything for the first time and nothing is boring. Everything is new. Every moment is alive. I try to not be jaded. (This was originally a carousel of 20 photos but instagram said my caption was 10X the limit) by @dardelle

RECENTLY…
    1.    “Quick! Take a picture of me and the kids with the rainbow!” lol.
    2.    Got into the #Oasis show at Soldier Field for free! Sent this video to wifey 3 minutes before the Mighty O went on stage. I never expected to get in because I didn’t have that kind of $$$ (kids… I tell you!). There was something really romantic about a summer night by myself on a bench, listening to Oasis with the whole city of Chicago behind them… and then an angel appeared, gave me a ticket, and we proceeded to scream every word for 2.5 hours (or longer).
    3.    Somewhere in all of us is this dog at Lake Michigan.
    4.    Hanging at the bowling alley.
    5.    Clyde took his big sister’s piece of pizza and took his first bite. Look at that pizza smile! #Onebite — everybody knows you’re hooked for life. 😘 China

    10.    Who doesn’t love some pink flowers growing off the tree when you’re walking down your street to grab a quick grocery run?
    11.    #SummersOver.
    12.    The bridesmaids told me she booked this photoshoot in the Loop months before the Trump/ICE protest was set to take place in the background.
    13.    It’s really hard not to take a selfie at the Bean.
    14.    “Dad, look at the screen!” “Oh, that’s great! Keep going, more more more.”

Q-Tip at the 10th Street Russian Turkish Baths, 2011

I used to live around the corner from the 10th Street Baths—literally less than a minute away—and I had somehow finagled a yearlong membership for $575, so I was going a lot. It was like going out for a morning coffee for me at the time. I’d be in there for 30 minutes, done, and feeling incredible for the rest of the day.

I’d always get there at noon on Monday, the second they opened, because there would be zero people there—or maybe one super-regular. (You know, the kind that are there every time you go, no matter what time it is, and you wonder how that’s even possible or if they even work.)

One Monday, I entered the Russian Room and, lo and behold, there’s Q-Tip. I had literally just seen the documentary “Beats, Rhymes & Life” two days before. I had always loved A Tribe Called Quest, but I had no idea how instrumental Q-Tip was in putting all that music together. I had so much to say. So we sat and talked for a while.

On my way out, Q-Tip was in front of a mirror with a blow dryer, doing his hair. The voices in my brain said, “Don’t do it. Don’t ask him to take a picture. Super awkward. Do NOT do it.” And then the other voice said, “You’ll regret it. It’s fucking Q-Tip doing his hair in front of the mirror at the 10th Street Baths.” (And not the new, improved, renovated front section—this was the old, pre-COVID section that looked 100 years old.)

I had my camera ready. “Can I get a quick picture?” I thought to myself, “I’ve crossed the line…” And he replied, “You can get one out front.” Good enough for me. People always loosely throw around the word legend when referring to someone. This dude is actually a fucking Legend. Thanks.

Oh, and also—I literally know someone who left their wallet in El Segundo. @qtiptheabstract tribecalledquestt @russianbaths #tribecalledquest #russianturkishbaths #qtip taken in Russian & Turkish Baths by @dardelle

Jason Dill, 2010, Manhattan.
Jason was always super nice to me. I think he’s just one of those guys who’s interested in so many things that he can extract something from anyone.

Anyway, when he bartended at The Hole in the early 2000s, I’d always order by saying, “Whatever you feel like making…” because he wouldn’t charge me if I said those exact words.

He’d always mix up the most insanely strong, fruity drink—imagine a Long Island Iced Tea, but fruitier and three times stronger, served in a pint glass. Then he’d ask, “Is it good? That’s what I’ve been making for myself!”

Those were fun times. #jasondill #polaroid taken in Manhattan, New York by @dardelle

I like all kinds of cameras—old heavy ones; new pocket digitals; Polaroids; Instax; grainy black-and-white film; saturated color film; CCD sensors; CMOS sensors; rangefinders; SLRs; throwaways; filters; lenses—even the subtle differences between phone cameras. I’ve never understood how some people use the same camera for everything. That’s just not fun for me.

I like shifting mental gears, thinking differently within the limits of each camera. It pulls me away from my phone—not that phones are bad, but doing everything on them can be.

Anyway, here’s a photo from Lake Michigan. Sometimes I’ll see a picture of a stunning beach somewhere and feel that fuzzy jealousy start to creep in—but then I go to Lake Michigan, and that feeling disappears. I’m completely happy with it. It’s enough for me.

The many characters of 1st avenue…Upon zooming I’m realizing I must’ve given him a Polaroid of himself to keep. I find a lot of people want to sit and chat and look at a picture of themselves and eventually ask if they can keep one. 2010 taken in Manhattan, New York by @dardelle
