Nevertheless, other researchers have argued that homicide rates can also be explained in terms of income inequality and male-tofemale ratio, than climate change (Krems & Varnum, 2017).

In sum, research on the effects of heat on aggression suggests that there is indeed a link between heat and aggression: When people get hot, they become irritable and may be more likely to lash out at others. However, there may be limits to this relationship, stemming from the fact that after prolonged exposure to high temperatures, people become so uncomfortable that they focus on reducing their discomfort—not on attacking others.

Short of these extreme conditions, however, there is a big grain of truth in the metaphor “the heat of anger,” and when temperatures rise, tempers may, too— with serious social consequences. That is, certainly something to consider in the context of global warming and the very real possibility that all of us will soon be exposed to uncomfortably hot outdoor temperatures more frequently than was true in the past. Nevertheless, as other research has suggested, in addition to higher temperatures efforts to reduce interpersonal conflict and violence should also tackle income inequality (Mares & Moffet, 2016).

𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆

The two legends I got influenced by are @gabormatemd and @bessel_van btw.

The people we admire and imitate shape our behaviors, values, and even our self-identity. According to social learning theory, we learn not just from direct experience but also by observing others. This means that our role models—whether they are parents, teachers, celebrities, or mentors—serve as blueprints for our own actions. When we choose to look up to individuals with integrity, resilience, and wisdom, we unconsciously internalize those qualities, influencing how we navigate challenges and make decisions.

However, not all role models lead us in the right direction. Albert Bandura’s research on observational learning highlights that both positive and negative behaviors can be learned through imitation. If we idolize people who glorify superficial success, unethical behavior, or self-destructive habits, we risk absorbing those patterns ourselves.

This is especially true in the age of social media, where influencers often present carefully curated versions of their lives, reinforcing unrealistic expectations. Being mindful of who we admire helps ensure that our values and actions align with our true aspirations.

Ultimately, the best role models are those who inspire growth, self-reflection, and authenticity. Instead of following someone solely for their status or popularity, we should seek out individuals whose lives reflect principles of kindness, perseverance, and wisdom.

As Bandura emphasized, learning is a continuous process shaped by our environment. By surrounding ourselves—physically or virtually—with people who embody the qualities we wish to develop, we set ourselves up for success in both character and achievement.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴

"I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975. . . . That was a long time ago, but it’s wrong what they say about the past. . . . Looking back now, I realize I have been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty-six years." —Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner

This is what trauma does to a human being. You are here in the present but parts of you are stuck in the past.

The “night sea journey” is the journey into the parts of ourselves that are split off, disavowed, unknown, unwanted, cast out, and exiled to the various subterranean worlds of consciousness. . . . The goal of this journey is to reunite us with ourselves. Such a homecoming can be surprisingly painful, even brutal. In order to undertake it, we must first agree to EXILE NOTHING.

This is what people mean when they say accept all parts of yourself and be grateful for the learnings.

The following poem describes the transformative power of seeking therapy and how it changes lives of people.

I don’t go to therapy to find out if I’m a freak
I go and I find the one and only answer every week
And when I talk about therapy, I know what people think That it only makes you selfish and in love with your shrink
But, oh how I loved everybody else
When I finally got to talk so much about myself

The Odyssey is one of two major epics of ancient Greek literature attributed to Homer. It is one of the oldest surviving works of literature. It's quite fascinating that alongside Hindu Literature of Ramayana & Mahabharata, Iliad & Odyssey also survived as intact pieces of ancient paganism. Sadly, the downfall of Greek pantheons & whole structure of theology in ancient Greece is another case study (just like the vikings or the Egyptians).

Anyways, the story of Odyssey by Homer was composed as hymns/poems back in 800 BCE. It focuses between Telemachus searching for his father & Odysseus overcoming monsters like Polyphemus the Cyclops, gigantic, cannibalistic giants Laestrygoniansthe, witch Circe, enchanting, bird-like women Sirens, six-headed sea monster Scylla, before reclaiming his throne.

Now, enough yapping about the historical topics, let's focus on the philosophy of Odyssey.

At the end of the film, the Bard, played by Travis Scott, says, “The darkness of victory shrouds the writers in legends. It makes bards and blind beggars of us all.”

In other words, the songs and stories make the victory at Troy—and those responsible—legendary, obscuring the dark reality of what actually happened. It also essentially makes these figures gods in our minds, relegating us to the status of beggars in comparison.

The Odyssey is full of examples of how pride, and ambition, ultimately get you nowhere. Agamemnon wins the war, and is welcomed back home as a hero, but ultimately gets killed in bed by his own wife. Odysseus’ Trojan horse idea wins the war, but destroys the world. After Odysseus escapes the Land of the Dead, he looks back and sees a hoard of fallen soldiers standing like ghosts in the mist. One of Odysseus crew members shouts, “Is that our fate?!”

On Circe’s island, Odysseus hunts for a deer while Circe turns his men into pigs. After Odysseus delivers the killing shot, he comes upon the body to see a man laying naked in the grass, shot in the back.

This is a perfect visualization of what Odysseus did at Troy. In sacking Troy, he gained victory, but he killed man—he killed civilization—in the process.

Odysseus’ Trojan Horse idea was cunning, and smart. by @daredevil.mb

Internal Family Systems (IFS): Understanding the Protective Parts

IFS views the mind as made up of different “parts,” each with its own role. In OCD, common parts include:

The Alarm Part – generates intrusive thoughts to keep reminding you of the danger so that you don’t let your guard down

The Compulsive Part – performs rituals to try to reduce anxiety, bringing temporary relief

The Manager – pushes for certainty, control, or perfection to try to keep you safe

The Critic – blames or shames when you can’t control the symptoms

While these parts can feel frustrating or overwhelming, in IFS we approach them with curiosity and compassion. Because, even if it seems totally irrational, every part has a positive intention to try to protect you.

Often, OCD parts are working overtime to protect more vulnerable parts that carry:

Fear - "I'm not safe"

Shame - "I'm bad"

Powerlessness - "There's nothing I can do and no one can help"

Memories of past overwhelm or unpredictability

As therapy helps your system access your core sense of self in the present, a calm, grounded inner presence, parts that carry fear or shame can begin to feel safe and comforted. This allows outdated, protective parts to begin to relax, knowing you're safe today. They no longer need to work so hard. Intrusive thoughts and compulsions naturally decrease.

Look after your faith; let your mind rest; let the intellect sleep; let egoism, old beliefs and sentimental devotion wear out. Many ideals, blessings, inspirational urges, and divine mandate urge me to remind you: 'Be awake within; stand straight within; go forward within.'

The first aspect of consciousness is shadow, the
next aspect is luminous; its third is reflection and the final and full aspect is only that of the drashta (the seer).

Sattwic life constitutes the platform upon which
the power of yoga descends. Yoga resides in a sattwic heart. Sattwlc life, therefore, means purity of the body, the mind and the conduct of life.

Remove the fivee kleshas (tensions). This is the
mentally sattwic state. Keep the bowels clean; this is
the physically sattwic state. Keep your conduct in life
on right lines. This will give you mental joy.

Are you afraid? But now there is no escape. Your name has been published in the divine gazette. Let me see who keeps you away.

The Atman, subtler than the subtle, greater than the great, is seated in the heart of each living being. He, who is free from desire, with his mind and senses composed, beholds the majesty of the self and becomes free from sorrow.

Swami Sivananda is such an inspiration for the youth! As I've been reading more of his works, I am getting the feeling that I'm not going to feel the lack of a guru anymore.

Swami Sivananda has himself said that in this kali yuga, reading the works of self-realized souls is tantamount to being in satsanga (to live in the company of great men).

O Mahadeva Shambhu (Lord Shiva), who is an ocean of compassion, please forgive all these transgressions - those committed by hands and feet, those arising from speech and body, those born of actions, those originating from hearing and sight, and those of the mind - whether they occurred in performing prescribed duties or prohibited actions. Victory, victory to You!

Your greatest enemies are your bad habits. They will follow you from one incarnation to another until you overcome them. In order to free yourself from fate, you must cure yourself of your bad habits. How? Good company is one of the best medicines. If your friends have a tendency to gossip, betray, etc, mix with people who don't. If you have the consciousness of failure, associate yourself with the consciousness of success. Then you will begin to change.

Just arrived yesterday. It's a heavy book, so I'd recommend you to read "Getting past your past" by Francine Shapiro first. You'll get the gist of EMDR therapy by reading that one.
