Social media comments are always full of love. Adoption applications? Crickets.

Meet Cody and Cooper. Between the two of them, they have collected hundreds of heart emojis, plenty of sympathetic sighs, and zero adoption applications.

Someone out there is seriously missing out on two incredible boys:

Cody: Our 12-year-old gentleman. He has completely mastered the art of low-key companionship, squirrel watching, and couch lounging.

Cooper: Our goofy, handsome young pup (~1.5 years old). He is crate trained, knows his basics, loves a good yard zoomie session, and is ready for an active family to help him show off his full potential.

Senior sweetness or young playful energy, we have both ends of the spectrum covered. Apply to adopt at dobe.net! DAR&E adopts to Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Delaware, and in portions of both eastern West Virginia and southern Pennsylvania. by @darerescue

Lucy still needs us. 💙

When we first shared Lucy’s story, we asked for your help giving this brave 6-year-old Doberman a chance at a life without pain. Thanks to the generosity of so many people, she’s been able to begin her journey toward healing. But we’re not at the finish line yet.

Lucy has endured years of hardship and neglect, and she deserves so much more than simply surviving. She deserves to run, play, explore, and enjoy the life every dog should have.

Her medical care is expensive, and we still need donations to help cover her surgeries, custom braces, rehabilitation, and recovery.

Can you help Lucy get the care she needs?

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us get closer to covering her expenses. And if you’re unable to donate right now, sharing this post can help Lucy’s story reach someone who can.

Please consider making a donation today. Lucy’s journey isn’t over, and we want to make sure she has everything she needs for the road ahead.

Donate to Lucy’s GoFundMe:

Thank you for standing behind Lucy and helping give her the second chance she deserves. 💙 by @darerescue

Two puppies are twice the fun, right? Sometimes. But bringing home littermates, or two puppies close in age, can create some unique challenges.
You may have heard the term “littermate syndrome.” It isn’t a formal veterinary diagnosis, and there’s debate about exactly what causes it. But rescues and trainers regularly see problems when two young dogs become overly dependent on each other instead of learning how to confidently navigate the world on their own.
You might see:
• Extreme distress when separated
• Fearfulness or reactivity toward new people, dogs, or environments
• Difficulty focusing on their humans when they’re together
• Competition or conflict as they mature
• One puppy becoming much more confident while the other relies heavily on them
• Training becoming harder because the puppies are more interested in each other than their humans
And it’s not limited to actual siblings. Two unrelated puppies of similar ages can develop the same dynamic.
That doesn’t mean raising two puppies together is impossible. It means it requires significantly more intentional management: separate training, individual socialization, one-on-one time, separate walks and outings, independent rest, and plenty of opportunities for each dog to build confidence without the other.
From a rescue perspective, this is one reason we encourage adopters to let their first dog settle in before adding another puppy or young dog. Your new dog needs time to bond with you, learn the household routine, and develop confidence as an individual.
Two dogs can absolutely become wonderful companions. But the goal isn’t simply for them to be inseparable.
The goal is two confident dogs who can happily exist together and independently. by @darerescue

Meet Lupo! Your future adventure buddy, couch companion, and personal space enthusiast (well, not exactly).

Lupo is a 5-year-old, neutered black-and-rust Doberman with a big personality and an even bigger heart. This goofy, affectionate guy loves snuggling on the couch, exploring the outdoors, going for car rides, and showing off his tricks. He’s also a fan of treats and a good outfit, so don’t be surprised if he becomes your most stylish travel companion.

Lupo has a few quirks that make him uniquely himself. Balloons? Suspicious. Smoke? Absolutely not. His own shadow? Occasionally questionable. But life is never boring with Lupo around.

He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained, and he gets along well with spayed and neutered dogs. He does have food and environmental allergies that his family manages with a prescription diet and daily medication, and he wears a basket muzzle on walks to help keep him safe because he’s prone to picking things up off the ground.

Lupo is looking for an adult-only home that will appreciate his goofy charm, respect his needs, and give him all the love and adventures he deserves. Visiting children will need close supervision. Cats are an unknown.

Lupo is being listed as a courtesy dog through DAR&E, which means his family is helping him find the right forever home. They are happy to answer questions by phone and arrange a meet-and-greet for interested adopters.

Could Lupo be your new best friend? Help us find this lovable goofball the home he’s been waiting for. Share this post to help Lupo find his people! by @darerescue

Two male dogs. What could go wrong?
Sometimes, nothing.
And sometimes, everything.
That’s why DAR&E does not place male Dobermans in homes with another male dog.
We know this can be frustrating, especially if you’ve had two male dogs who lived together peacefully. This isn’t because we believe male dogs can never get along. They absolutely can.
The problem is that male-to-male conflict can develop unexpectedly, even after months or years of getting along. And when two large, powerful dogs fight, the injuries can be devastating.
We’ve seen dogs come into rescue after conflicts with another male dog in the home. Our job is to learn from those experiences and make placements that give each dog the best chance at a safe, stable forever home.
So this policy isn’t about judging your experience with male dogs.
It’s about risk management.
Our dogs have already lost a home once. We want their next home to be their last.
That means sometimes making the difficult choice to say, “This isn’t the right match.”
Because a successful adoption isn’t just about finding a home.
It’s about finding the right home. by @darerescue

Name: Max
Age: 7
Location: Remington, VA
Breed: Doberman
Relationship status: Single and ready to be spoiled
About me:
Handsome. Affectionate. Athletic. Slightly unaware of my own size.
I’m the kind of guy who will happily go running and playing with you, then come home and enthusiastically attempt to become a lap dog. I previously had 10 acres to roam and absolutely loved it, so I’m looking for someone who enjoys an active lifestyle and has a large, securely fenced yard.
I’m great around the house, potty trained, neutered, vaccinated, know my basic commands, and have excellent off-leash recall. I also LOVE car rides, so road-trip applications are strongly encouraged.
My green flags:
✓ I love dogs
✓ I love kids
✓ I love adults
✓ I’m good with cats... as long as they don’t run
✓ No bite history
✓ Very food motivated
✓ Excellent recall
✓ Affectionate and sweet
My red flags:
🚩 I may counter surf if something delicious is within reach
🚩 I have not yet accepted that I am not, in fact, a tiny lap dog
🚩 If a cat runs, my chase instincts may activate
Looking for:
An active human who wants a big, goofy, affectionate Doberman to be part of the family. Bonus points for a big fenced yard, adventures, car rides, and plenty of opportunities to run and play.
Deal breaker:
Someone who doesn’t appreciate a 90-pound-ish love bug who occasionally forgets where his feet are.
My ideal first date:
A car ride, some running around, and then hanging out with my people.
Think we could be a match? Max is a courtesy dog through DAR&E and is waiting in Remington, VA. Check out his profile and submit an application on dobe.net taken in Remington, Virginia by @darerescue

Calipso has officially found her match! ❤️
Our beautiful courtesy girl Calipso has been adopted and is off to start her next chapter with her forever family.
This independent, opinionated girl was looking for someone who would appreciate her big personality, give her the structure and attention she thrives on, and let her be their one and only. It looks like she found exactly that.
Thank you to everyone who shared her story, sent her good wishes, and helped get her profile in front of the right person. Every share matters, and sometimes it leads to a happily ever after.
Happy tails, Calipso! by @darerescue
