A magical thing happened today, just in time for #earthday

A chrysalis is not an encasing around a caterpillar, like a cocoon is. It’s its actual body. And inside, enzymes are released that liquify its chubby caterpillar tissues so it can become a totally different looking thing. A day or two before it is ready to emerge, the chrysalis will turn clear so that you can peek at it in its weirdest stage.

Monarch butterflies retain memories from caterpillarhood which is kind of surprising, but serves as a nice reminder that we can change and still hold on to who we once were. taken in Los Angeles, California by @dariaxtaylor
