Now, suddenly, there’s a free spot available again at the course “ Passionate Paper Party”, which Nadine Werner @buchundpapier and I will be teaching together in her studio from September 23rd to 26th.

We know the workshop starts in just a month, but maybe someone will have some free time on short notice and feel like joining us to fold paper and bind adhesive-free books.

1st day: We will meet in the afternoon to get to know each other. Nadine will show her workshop, we want to set up the workspace and Nadine and I will tell you what we have planned for the 3 days.

2nd day: I’ll teach. We’ll explore how small geometric changes can transform a folding pattern and lead to completely new structures. We’ll learn simple strategies to modify existing patterns, play with their geometry and rhythms, and develop your own designs. We’ll explore three types of geometric variations using two patterns: the Waterbomb and the Double Chevron Pleat.

3rd day: Nadie will teach.
In this class we’ll explore the concept of using origami tessellations for books and tool holders. Wi will create samples of her two techniques, tessellated spine binding usen the water bomb base or Miura fold and the circle binding with magnets as connectors.

4td day:
On this last day we will have time for more folds and questions - to finish or modify projects from the first two days - to share ideas- to talk about tools, materials and for show and tell of our group.

Course fee: 550 euro. Incl. Welcome dinner, coffee/tea & lunch

I'm writing this post thinking of @lisa.klingersberger , a lovely designer who folds paper, works with different materials, and uses machines to complement her handwork — everything driven by a great passion for geometry. This is at the heart of her daily work.

In her last post, she wrote about this crease pattern and her wish to experiment with it on a larger paper format. I think it's a brilliant idea. Working on a large scale, and depending on whether the sheet is square or rectangular, opens up a wide range of creatives possibilities.

Plus, it's a lot of fun!

At the beginning of summer, after teaching at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, I spent a few days with the ceramic artist @lander.reka running tests for a future series of works. Testing new materials and new processes is always an enriching experience.

Every time I face something challenging, I don’t know exactly where I’m heading, but I feel that, eventually, the material always work out and show me how I’m meant to handle them.

Getting a few new samples ready for the next edition of Passionate Paper Party at @buchundpapier this September.

A few minutes ago, I found out that what I've been referring to as "variations of the Waterbomb " is actually a folded pattern created by @polyscene (Polly Verity)

Polly herself reached out to let me know after we exchanged a few lovely messages. We even talked about getting together someday to spend some time folding origami together, which I'm really looking forward to.

So I'd like to take this opportunity to encourage you all to have a look at her wonderful work. It's truly inspiring.
