Lessons in August…

Be grateful that you “could” and not sad on what should have been.

I packed a lot into August. It was an experience beyond my normal capacity. A month filled with celebration of life and new opportunities to connect with “my” people. The word capacity showed up as the central theme throughout. The idea that we are all limited in some ways and capable in others is both humbling and illuminating. But as my best friend told me “if you’re always the judge or the victim then you can’t be present.” And I did just that. I was present and available for each moment. Which has brought me to much gratitude and some grace . I think I’m low on grace tho… lol

The bottles and the balloon’s have been popped and the gratitude continues. Thank you to everyone that came, and filled the room with love.

I’m not really a party person so throwing this event was a stretch. It was such a labor of love and I couldn’t have done it without tribe. My best friend, My Mother, my Aunts and some new friends I’ve made. From the bottom of my heart thank you. This was one of those milestones that really meant something to me.

Thank you for sharing life with me.

Happy Birthday to me! 🖤

I keep trying to think of something clever to say for my birthday and I’m sorry to be earnest… I’m just happy to be here. I’m gagged and grateful to still be learning and growing. Who would have thought.

Of course I’ll post more and think of something ridiculous to say… of course! But right now I’m thankful.

I participated in an artshow this past spring and I truly enjoyed it. Creating art is pretty personal to me at this point. It’s mainly a hobby that periodically pays and I don’t share it often enough. I use to compete in art events when I was younger and I dabble in commission work for a bit but I find that I feel the most fulfilled when I create for me and then let people view it on my terms.

Some pieces were created for the show and some were started years ago and finished before the showcase. I rarely take pictures of the work lol cuz I feel like it’s just best digested in person. I need to get better at posting and sharing but it really feels good to create and spend time with work. I could go on and on by @dariusamore

I’m trying to live more in the gratitude of life. Like yea things can be tough and people don’t always show up like you wish they would but at least you get to live in a reality where I get to order 8 tacos at BarTaco and wash it down with a green margarita.

At least I get to feel the rain on my skin… cuz no one else can feel it for me. Ya know?!!!

I’m practicing RADICAL acceptance. It’s when I look at a situation and then immediately think of a few things, some ridiculous, and then revel in that gratitude. Sometimes it works and sometimes it just feels silly. Which is also fine cuz I get to laugh. See. Radical gratitude.

Fun Fact: I lightened my eyes in windows PAINT in the 4th photo. Remember that? Ridiculous. I was 19. by @dariusamore

17 year old Darius was poppin. lol
Whew I’m already doing poorly with these 40 posts. But I’m gonna keep my word.

As my birthday approaches I am so in my head. Nothing specific is pending but it just feels pretty major to have even gotten this far in life. What an honor it is to watch me grow. What a privilege it is to have the opportunity to fail and get back up again. It all feels like I’m sort of watching on the sidelines instead of living it. Which means I have perspective but I’m not as present as I should be.

Anyway. Here’s some photos.

Fun Fact: I was voted most creative in high school. Which is not what I had been campaigning for all year we were hoping for “Best Looking”. Which probably means I was so sexy they didn’t want to make the guy who won feel bad. Yea that’s it. by @dariusamore
