Happy to announce that my work will also be a part of the Curated by DAR Shop selection at Brutus.

@dar_culturalagency DAR Pop-Up Shop, 17–19 July | Opening Wild Summer of Art - @brutus.rotterdam

This illustration "Force open the doors of doubt" is one of three available, representing a victory scene of the people against the oppressive forces.

I sketched the idea for this one quite a few years ago but only started finalizing it last year.

I hope you get to see them all at their real size when you visit. taken in Brutus by @darkmanix

Meet the artist: Malik Saïb-Mezghiche.⁠

Graphic designer Malik creates illustrations, animations, and films that show influences of anime, hiphop, and fantasy, as well as his own surroundings. His politically engaged work calls for revolution and resistance, but also brotherhood and restoration. ⁠
⁠
Malik: “In Monopole I will show two paintings. I want to show two parts of a liberation; a conflictual part, and equally important, how you can build community around that. Because it isn’t only about tearing things down. Destruction and renewal go hand in hand.”⁠

The Volkskrant Visual Arts Prize 2026 is on display at Monopole until 2 August. Pop in, admire the work of nominated artists Levi van Gelder, Malik Saïb-Mezghiche, afra eisma and Sondi, and cast your vote for your favourite artist. ⁠

Force open the doors of doubt - In this painting I try to paint a victory scene of the people against the oppressive forces. I see the police station as a symbolic and strategic location to overcome like the Bastille of old.

Glory to the vanquished cities - In this painting, you can see the building where I grew up in Vaulx-en-Velin, shortly before it was demolished. In the foreground, you can see a figure of the city, holding a police helmet. I see it as an echo of battle pasts, of all that came before that dared to fight against oppression.
