As many of you may or may not know, Sarah and I adopted Colby Jack a month after our mom passed away. He filled a large hole in our hearts that she left behind and gave us something to distract us from our grief and pain. He was full of love. Even though I didn’t live with him anymore, I was still his Mama Kayla and he will always be my first child.

Colby Jack was the easiest puppy to train. He barely chewed anything and he learned his recall very quickly. We would take him on the walking trails of the bike path off leash and he would run ahead, but only far enough that he could still see us and he would stop and wait for us.

He loved car rides and always wanted to be in the passenger seat. He would stare straight ahead and I would call him my co-pilot. If we stopped too long at a red light or when we got to our destination, he would freak out because he was so excited to be somewhere new. It was embarrassing.

Colby was smart too. He knew that his Kong was how he got peanut butter and as soon as Sarah and Seths would leave for vacation, he would throw his Kong at me because he knew I would hook him up with a treat.

Today Colby Jack crossed the rainbow bridge. It was one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do but it was best for him. Once again we have a hole in our hearts. We love you Colby Jack. Rest in peace. #adogdubbedcolbyjack #rainbowbridge @wingedfanel @superhipsibs @rheonotic by @darkrisky

March 24th. Another year passes without either of you. The sun keeps rising. The birds keep chirping. The wind still blows. The rest of the world keeps moving on. It feels like it should have stopped 22 years ago and then again 12 years ago when both of you left this world, but somehow it didn’t.
