“Get On Up” is the song that always comes to mind when I think of DJ Chuck. He was an exceptional DJ and mixer whose incredible talent could get anyone out on the dance floor. His seamless mixes, infectious energy, and passion for music made every set unforgettable.Chuck will be remembered not only for his remarkable musical talent but also for his infectious smile, his great sense of humour, and, above all, for being a genuinely kind and caring person. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the memories he created, the music he shared, and the countless lives he touched.You will be deeply missed, Chuck. After spending time in North Buxton this weekend, I felt inspired to shine a light on two incredible women — my cousins, Karen and Tracy — true superstars in their own right!Karen has been blessing the world through music as the founder and leader of the Juno Award-winning Toronto Mass Choir (TMC), spreading joy and inspiration through gospel.Tracy, on the other hand, is passionately educating the world about Black Canadian pioneers — sharing the stories of those who paved the way for future generations, ensuring that our rich history is not forgotten. Her presentation is named, “And Then It Happened”.I am beyond proud of both of them — and equally proud of their amazing parents, my godparents, Aunt Reenie and Uncle Winnie, for nurturing such brilliance and purpose.We were all together this weekend for the 102nd Homecoming in North Buxton, celebrating our 5th generation heritage. Tracy shared our family’s history in the very church where our great-grandfather once served as pastor, and Karen and I were absolutely beaming with pride.It fills my heart to know that more and more people are learning that Black people have been a part of Canada’s story since the early 1800s.Please consider booking Tracy to share and celebrate our collective heritage. Today my friend and sister was called home to glory! Her smile and laughter will be with me forever! Even though she put up a good fight it was time for her to rest. I am so happy to be meeting more family from the US and Canada. Cousin Tracy has been digging deep and has created a presentation named “And Then What Happened!” (Check out the t-shirt) Tracy will share our family history and Black Canadian History in general.
