POSTS STORIES REELS

2:46:45 ON THE STREETS OF DUBLIN. ☘️🏃‍♂️

Four years since I last ran the Dublin Marathon, with Chicago and New York taking me away to the Majors. But my God, how much this race has grown!

Dublin is truly something special. Forget the Majors for a minute. Nothing compares to running on your home turf. The support, the familiar faces, old friends and new, the roar of the crowds from start to finish. There’s a reason this one hits differently. ❤️

It’s an absolute privilege to be part of it. Running alongside people from all walks of life, all with different stories, backgrounds and goals, but once you lace up those shoes, none of that matters. We’re all in it together.

Battling the conditions up Chesterfield Avenue and Crumlin Road, finding another gear with a tailwind, hearing the crowds roar your name and shout out your club. Those moments remind you exactly why we do this.

Running might look like an individual sport, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. It takes a village. Family, running clubs, training groups and the people who turn up week after week. Running together, laughing together, giving each other dogs abuse 😂, sharing advice, experience and, sometimes, a bit of free therapy along the way!

The friendships, the support and the community built around this sport are every bit as special as the times on the clock.

To everyone who ran, supported, shouted, cheered and high-fived along the course — THANK YOU. You made the day what it was.

Dublin, you’re special. More special than anywhere else.

This is our city. This is our community. This is our home. ☘️❤️

TOKYO MARATHON 2027 🇯🇵 – THE FINAL STAR ⭐️

The journey started with a goal… but it’s become so much more than that.

In 2027, I’ll be lining up at the Tokyo Marathon — the final step in completing all six World Marathon Majors, with one big target in mind:
Sub-3 hours in every single one.

But this one is different.

I’m proud to be running Tokyo in support of Focus Ireland — an incredible charity doing vital work tackling homelessness across Ireland. This cause is close to home for me.

A good friend of mine, Dara, spent over 18 months supported by Focus Ireland. Seeing his journey, his resilience, and where he is now — back thriving and giving back through his own running group, The Positive Pacers — shows exactly why this matters.

Running has the power to change lives.
And this time, it’s about more than splits, sessions, or finish times.

It’s about giving something back.
Over the next year, I’ll be putting everything into this final chapter — chasing that sub-3, completing the six stars, and raising awareness and support for those who need it most.

If you can, I’d really appreciate your support — whether that’s sharing this, spreading the word, or contributing in any way.

Let’s make this one count. 🇮🇪

Dublin City Half Marathon ✔️
Results are in—and what a day it was.

Huge performances across the board. From PBs to smart, controlled executions, it’s been brilliant to see the consistency and work over the past block pay off. That’s what it’s all about.

With that race wrapped up, it’s time to shift focus.

I’m opening up 2 new coaching spots for the next phase—
➡️ Targeting short summer races (5K / 10K / 10 Mile)
➡️ Building towards a strong autumn marathon block

If you’ve got your eye on something like Dublin Marathon, now is the time to lay the foundations properly—structure, consistency, and smart progression.

This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about building real, long-term fitness.

If you’re ready to train with purpose, improve, and stay consistent: 📩 DM me or get in touch to secure a spot.

Let’s get to work. by @darmur83

The marathon might be done… but the real work starts now. 🏁

Recovery post-marathon isn’t optional — it’s essential.

After 42.2km, your body is carrying thousands of tiny micro-tears through the muscles, tendons, and connective tissue. That’s not damage to ignore… that’s adaptation waiting to happen — if you allow it.

Too many runners rush straight into the next block chasing fitness. But the truth is: ➡️ You don’t get fitter from the marathon
➡️ You get fitter from recovering properly after it

For me, this phase is about completely unwinding. Stepping away from structure. Getting a break, some sunshine, switching off mentally as much as physically. Let the body and mind reset before building again.

The non-negotiables right now: • Sleep – your number one recovery tool. This is where the repair happens.
• Nutrition – quality food, plenty of it. Replenish, rebuild, restore.
• Rest – not just “easy runs”… actual rest. Give the body time to absorb the work.

This is where future training blocks are made stronger.
This is where consistency is protected.
This is where injuries are avoided.

Respect the recovery, and your next start line will thank you for it.

Paris Marathon 2026 🇫🇷

Paris Marathon 2026 – Completed
The reality of the day - A Swing & a Miss 2.45

Happy to be back on the start line in PB shape after a couple of months of consistent work and plenty of laser treatment to get things right again.

Felt very good and controlled all the way through to 30KM — exactly where you want to be in a marathon. Calm, relaxed, executing the plan.

The hills coming out along the Seine definitely hit harder than expected, and to be honest, the course was chaotic at times… crowds spilling onto the road, people pacing and filming on roller skates, and the whole “Instagram circus” alongside the race. Frustrating when you’re trying to stay locked in.

At 33KM, things shifted. Stomach completely emptied — really felt that hunger hit hard. From there, the last 9KM became a mental battle more than anything. Not pretty… a bit of a sufferfest and definitely a “feel sorry for myself” stretch.

But — got it done.
2:52 on the clock.

Happy… but also know there’s more there.

The biggest positive? I’ve come out of it in very good condition. Not broken up, no major issues — and that’s a massive win.

We go again 👊

Right now, I’m just grateful to be back training consistently at a high level:
90–100KM running weekly
100–120KM on the bike commuting
2–3 cross trainer sessions
Strength & conditioning
Yoga

That balance is putting me back where I want to be.

Next block starts after a well needed Holiday (Obviously)

We Go Again

Thanks all for the countless support and well wishes, that's why we love it.

Chicago 2025 - The Return

5th Major Star 🌟 Sub 3

Simply Job Done ✔️ with a great group of lads.
There's no fear in failure, but not trying isn't an option.

After 2024s disappointment while running injured there was no way I wasn't going back to get this done. I really shouldn't have ran Chicago 24 but as I'm told time and time again, I'm to stubborn not to.

Unfortunately it had an even worse physical and mental affect on me after. The winter was very dark I couldn't do what I love, simply just run each day. I wouldn't take that risk again.

2025 was to just simply get back running pain free and like most things in life nothing is ever straightforward. The work is never an issue, I simply love it all.
It wasn't until I met Neuromuscular Therapist Jason Keogh that I finally started to get relief from deep trigger point needling.

In May I got engaged 💍, then my father passed 11 days later (he never liked weddings). I took time in September to get away, to train and more importantly check in with myself.

I'm genuinely blessed with the life I have and live. Sonia putting up with me on the rare tough days, to the friends I've grown up with like Dara O'Connor. Beating his own demons and setting up his own running club. It's a privilege to be able to help in anyway possible. Mero, who's probably just as stubborn as me and we will always have eachothers backs.

Debbie the absolute 🐐, simply thank you. Your non stop support, words of sense and just watching out for me means the world.

To absolutely everyone that running has brought into my life, I'm extremely grateful for and a much better person for.
Robert Murphy, thanks for the ongoing advice and knowledge.

At 42, I'm still only getting started 🏃‍♂️ .

I'm looking forward to supporting you all in Dublin after a holiday of course.

Livigno 1800m, four weeks at altitude solo.

A nice little life break to clear the head, reflect, refocus and appreciate all the amazing people and things I have in my life.

308 Miles Ran, 100 miles on the bike (to the gym and shops because cycling isn't a sport) S&C, Yoga, Pilates, sauna. Hopefully has helped me get back fit and ready for Chicago round 2.

It's been a very eventful, life changing year.
From a bad injury, Rehab after Rehab to getting Engaged 💍 in Maderia ❤️ and losing my dad 11 days later. To Jake turning 18 and finishing school 🐐.

Let's do this thing called life. RA

Let's do this thing called life.

Maderia, where it all changed in more ways than one 😉

Nothing in life is ever linear, so find yourself someone who will be there for the UPS and DOWNS.

Live the life you want and spend it with people doing what you love.

Chicago Marathon 2024 - 5th Major Star 🌟

Incredibly grateful to have made the start line after an injury setback in August.

Once I started, I was always going to finish, I'm to stubborn not to.

Set out at 6.30 per mile to see how far I could get after 2 weeks back training, managed my way round from 15 miles. Just missed out on another sub3 which I had to give a pop and just came up short. (I'll be back)

Super organised and brilliant support.
Thanks for all the lovely messages and support.

The 128th Boston Marathon.

Somedays are about Surviving.

Quads on Fire from 5 miles with such a fast downhill start. Holding back the pace working through the crowds of runners been roared on from the non stop support.

The crowds never stop, just like the heat.
No hiding from it at all, pacing with Dean Nugent (Armagh) helping each other along. We are already working hard, and it's only 6 miles in, HR 170s... By 10 miles, we knew 2.40 isn't on an pull back. Through Halfway in 1.20.20 and fueling every 3 miles while taking all the water we can sip and pour over us. OK, a 1.24 2nd half will still be a brilliant run, but come 16 miles it's Surviving that matters.

The crowd never stops. We get water bottles that just go over us to try cool down. The noise and roars of encouragement are both a blessing and a curse as we timidly solider on. Recalculating mile after mile in the pain cave to just get to the finish.

Bodies are dropping more and more. The last 10k isn't pretty. More and more are dropping, receiving help from the Marshals and medics. We plod on together each step feeling like if we stop, we will sieze up.

Survived, a lot didn't. Sub 3 intact, 4th World Major Star, 2 to go. It wasn't pretty but somehow got it done.

Thanks, Boston.
