2:46:45 ON THE STREETS OF DUBLIN. ☘️🏃‍♂️

Four years since I last ran the Dublin Marathon, with Chicago and New York taking me away to the Majors. But my God, how much this race has grown!

Dublin is truly something special. Forget the Majors for a minute. Nothing compares to running on your home turf. The support, the familiar faces, old friends and new, the roar of the crowds from start to finish. There’s a reason this one hits differently. ❤️

It’s an absolute privilege to be part of it. Running alongside people from all walks of life, all with different stories, backgrounds and goals, but once you lace up those shoes, none of that matters. We’re all in it together.

Battling the conditions up Chesterfield Avenue and Crumlin Road, finding another gear with a tailwind, hearing the crowds roar your name and shout out your club. Those moments remind you exactly why we do this.

Running might look like an individual sport, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. It takes a village. Family, running clubs, training groups and the people who turn up week after week. Running together, laughing together, giving each other dogs abuse 😂, sharing advice, experience and, sometimes, a bit of free therapy along the way!

The friendships, the support and the community built around this sport are every bit as special as the times on the clock.

To everyone who ran, supported, shouted, cheered and high-fived along the course — THANK YOU. You made the day what it was.

Dublin, you’re special. More special than anywhere else.

This is our city. This is our community. This is our home. ☘️❤️

TULLAMORE HALF MARATHON 2026 🏃‍♂️💨

1:16:34 — NEW PB! 🥇

Three years ago, I ran my previous half marathon PB here in Tullamore, on this exact course.

Today, three years later, I finally got back to it. 🙌

It’s been three years of rebuilding, finding consistency, overcoming injuries and learning what works for me. That process has allowed me to develop, get stronger and finally start pushing towards the potential I know I have.

And the last few weeks have been a massive boost:

🔹 4 weeks ago — 10-mile PB
🔹 Selected for the Senior Leinster Club team
🔹 Over-35 Gold with the Dublin County team
🔹 Today — Over-35 Dublin team took Bronze at the Half Marathon Championships 🥉

Most importantly, I’m so happy to feel back, fitter and closer to my full potential at 42 (43, 11 Days)

There have been plenty of setbacks along the way, but I’ve learned one thing:

NEVER GIVE UP.

Find what works for YOU.

Not somebody else’s training.
Not somebody else’s journey.
Not somebody else’s timeline.

Consistency. Turning up. Trusting the process.

Keep putting the work in, keep believing, and eventually the results will come. 💪

Can he Kick it - What a feeling to be back. ❤️

Thanks to everyone for all the class messages of ongoing support.

TOKYO MARATHON 2027 🇯🇵 – THE FINAL STAR ⭐️

The journey started with a goal… but it’s become so much more than that.

In 2027, I’ll be lining up at the Tokyo Marathon — the final step in completing all six World Marathon Majors, with one big target in mind:
Sub-3 hours in every single one.

But this one is different.

I’m proud to be running Tokyo in support of Focus Ireland — an incredible charity doing vital work tackling homelessness across Ireland. This cause is close to home for me.

A good friend of mine, Dara, spent over 18 months supported by Focus Ireland. Seeing his journey, his resilience, and where he is now — back thriving and giving back through his own running group, The Positive Pacers — shows exactly why this matters.

Running has the power to change lives.
And this time, it’s about more than splits, sessions, or finish times.

It’s about giving something back.
Over the next year, I’ll be putting everything into this final chapter — chasing that sub-3, completing the six stars, and raising awareness and support for those who need it most.

If you can, I’d really appreciate your support — whether that’s sharing this, spreading the word, or contributing in any way.

Let’s make this one count. 🇮🇪

Dublin City Half Marathon ✔️
Results are in—and what a day it was.

Huge performances across the board. From PBs to smart, controlled executions, it’s been brilliant to see the consistency and work over the past block pay off. That’s what it’s all about.

With that race wrapped up, it’s time to shift focus.

I’m opening up 2 new coaching spots for the next phase—
➡️ Targeting short summer races (5K / 10K / 10 Mile)
➡️ Building towards a strong autumn marathon block

If you’ve got your eye on something like Dublin Marathon, now is the time to lay the foundations properly—structure, consistency, and smart progression.

This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about building real, long-term fitness.

If you’re ready to train with purpose, improve, and stay consistent: 📩 DM me or get in touch to secure a spot.

Let’s get to work. by @darmur_rcd

The marathon might be done… but the real work starts now. 🏁

Recovery post-marathon isn’t optional — it’s essential.

After 42.2km, your body is carrying thousands of tiny micro-tears through the muscles, tendons, and connective tissue. That’s not damage to ignore… that’s adaptation waiting to happen — if you allow it.

Too many runners rush straight into the next block chasing fitness. But the truth is: ➡️ You don’t get fitter from the marathon
➡️ You get fitter from recovering properly after it

For me, this phase is about completely unwinding. Stepping away from structure. Getting a break, some sunshine, switching off mentally as much as physically. Let the body and mind reset before building again.

The non-negotiables right now: • Sleep – your number one recovery tool. This is where the repair happens.
• Nutrition – quality food, plenty of it. Replenish, rebuild, restore.
• Rest – not just “easy runs”… actual rest. Give the body time to absorb the work.

This is where future training blocks are made stronger.
This is where consistency is protected.
This is where injuries are avoided.

Respect the recovery, and your next start line will thank you for it.

The Club Wants to congratulate @robert_merrigan on the last two weeks of amazing running from him.....

First he got a massive PB in the heat of Malaga with his family right behind him with a time of 1:27:05 🔥

Then last weekend with the guidance of his good friend and coach @darmur_rcd he went out and achieved a goal he set a long time ago to get sub 40 mins in a 10k race , he smashed that goal with a time of 38:52 on Sunday morning 💪

Congratulations Rob leading by example as a coach in the Positive_Pacers and by showing hard work and proper planning you can achieve them goals you set and by enjoying your running with your team along the way 👏

Great start to your running year , the club is very proud to have you with us 💚 🤍 by @darmur_rcd

Another big one for Robert today 🔥 @robert_merrigan @rob_is_my_coach

Fresh off a Half Marathon PB in Malaga and straight back into action with a brilliant 10K PB in Dunboyne 💨

Incredible race, incredible conditions, but more importantly… perfect execution once again 👏

This is what consistency looks like. Week in, week out, showing up, putting in the work, trusting the process — and now it’s all coming together.

(Or maybe it’s just the odd socks… I’m still not fully convinced 🧦😂)

I wouldn’t usually recommend racing a fast 10K straight off the back of a Half Marathon, but this just proves a point — when the fitness is there, and it’s backed by real consistency, you can perform at a high level again and again.

Delighted to see it all paying off. More to come 🚀

Big weekend on the coaching and running front. 🏃‍♂️📚

I’ve just completed the Endurance Coaching Course with Athletics Ireland. As I continue to develop as a coach, it’s important to keep learning and updating knowledge. That said, I’ll always believe that real experience — years of running, training, racing, and working together with athletes — is the most valuable teacher. The courses add to that foundation and help sharpen the tools.

This morning I also had the honour of pacing the Skerries 10K for the 40-minute group. What a brilliant event and a fantastic course. Huge thanks to the organisers for asking me to be part of it — great atmosphere and great running all around. 🙌

Massive shoutout as well to my friend and client Robert who ran an incredible 1:27:05 PB in Malaga today. Consistency in training paying off in a big way, especially coming off the back of a tough 50K race in Donadea last month. That’s what steady work and belief looks like. 💪
Roll on the Summer short series 👌 😎

Learning. Racing. Coaching. Supporting others to improve.

That’s what it’s all about.
