THE LAST LOOK
THE NEXT ADVENTURE And just like that
26 extraordinary years, one final walk through our store, and the turning of a key. As we walked through the store for the very last time, we felt an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude for everything we have accomplished together. But what excites us most is what lies ahead. The address may have changed, but the heart of Darrell Thomas Textiles remains exactly where it has always been, in our love of beautiful fabrics, our commitment to quality, and the wonderful people who share our passion of sewing and fashion. The doors to our store have closed, but the possibilities have never been more open. Our online store continues, our passion is stronger than ever, and there are so many beautiful things still to come. Thank you for 26 remarkable years. Now, let’s create something extraordinary together. Shipping resumes November 18th. www.darrellthomas.com (http://www.darrellthomas.com/) #darrellthomas_textiles #designerfabrics #canadianfabricstore #newbeginningsahead #sewingcommunity by @darrellthomas_textiles
The Beginning of a New Chapter... What an extraordinary few days it has been! Since closing our doors on Saturday, we’ve been busy packing, sorting, reminiscing, and preparing to say our final goodbye to a space that has been such an important part of our lives. Tomorrow, we will finish packing, turn off the lights, and close the door for the very last time. The beautiful cards, heartfelt letters, thoughtful gifts, and overwhelming kindness that we’ve received have touched us more than words can say. After 26 wonderful years, we’ve come to realize that Darrell Thomas Textiles was never just about fabrics, buttons, and notions, it was about the people, the friendships, and the community we built together. While this chapter is ending, our story is far from over. And we couldn’t be more excited to share the next one with you! #newbeginning #sewinginspiration #positivity #gratefullness #canadianonlinefabricshop by @darrellthomas_textiles
What an incredible surprise and honour! Yesterday, Tyler Fleming from CTV News visited our store to interview me about the closing of our brick-and-mortar store after 26 wonderful years.   I was truly touched that our little store in Almonte and the journey we’ve shared with this community were considered worthy of a news story. After 26 years, there are so many memories and emotions, and I am incredibly grateful to Tyler and CTV News for taking the time to share a little piece of our story. Our storefront may be closing, but Darrell Thomas Textiles is not closing. Our next chapter continues online. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this amazing journey. The timeless beauty of quality Woolens Wool has been one of the most treasured fibres in the world of fashion. From tailored garments to exclusive designer collections, wool has stood the test of time for one simple reason
quality never goes out of style! We have a wonderful collection of Imported Italian Woolens, including Crepe, Gabardine, Challis, Double Knit and even luxurious Cashmere! Some of the qualities of Woolens are that wool helps regulate body temperature, keeping you comfortable in changing seasons. Wool fibres have an elasticity that helps garments resist wrinkles and maintain their shape and depending on the weave and weight, wool can be surprisingly lightweight yet wonderfully insulating. Wool is perfect for tailored trousers, jackets, coats, skirts, dresses and beautiful wardrobe classics. From flowing wool challis to structured gabardine, there’s a wool for almost every garment. There is something incredibly satisfying about creating a garment from beautiful wool. The way it presses, shapes and drapes is one of the reasons dressmakers and professional tailors have loved working with it for generations. Wool isn’t just for winter! Lightweight wool crepes and challis can be beautiful choices for garments worn throughout much of the year. #darrellthomas_textiles #italianwool #ItalianFabrics #woolfabric #sewyourownclothes by @darrellthomas_textiles
After 26 wonderful years, it’s hard to believe we’ve arrived at our final week. This Saturday, October 24th at 5:00 pm, we will close the doors of our brick-and-mortar store for the very last time.   For the past six years, we’ve been so fortunate to call the beautiful Victoria Woolen Mill, built in 1857, our home. What a privilege it has been to spend our days surrounded by so much history, beautiful fabrics, and, most importantly, wonderful people. If you’ve never had the opportunity to visit us here in Almonte, we’ve put together this little video so you can experience a small piece of the place we’ve loved so much.  To everyone who has walked through our doors over the past 26 years, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And remember, this isn’t goodbye. Darrell Thomas Textiles will continue online, and we hope you’ll join us for our next chapter at www.darrellthomas.com #darrellthomas_textiles #almonte #mississippimills #designerfabricstore #canadianfabricstore by @darrellthomas_textiles

I have to admit, whenever a new shipment of Liberty of London Tana Lawn arrives, I still get excited opening the boxes. And this latest collection is absolutely beautiful. Liberty Tana Lawn is an exceptionally fine, lightweight 100% cotton with an almost silky feel. It is incredibly soft against the skin, beautifully breathable and has the most wonderful drape. And because of the quality of the weave, Liberty’s famous prints have extraordinary clarity and colour. Tana Lawn is wonderful for blouses, shirts, dresses, skirts, summer garments, children’s clothing and so much more. It is lightweight without feeling flimsy, comfortable to wear and, best of all, an absolute pleasure to sew. Our newest collection has just arrived, and once again the prints are spectacular. #libertytanalawn #sewistsofinstagramđŸ‘—đŸ’ŻđŸ”„âœ‚ïžđŸ’•đŸ’ƒđŸ» #qualityfabrics #onlinefabric #sewing by @darrellthomas_textiles
A New Chapter for Darrell Thomas Textiles This is probably one of the most emotional posts I have ever had to write. For 26 years, I have had the privilege of opening the doors of Darrell Thomas Textiles and welcoming you inside.   What started as a dream on September 18, 2000 became so much more than I could ever have imagined. There have been thousands of bolts of fabric, countless buttons, beautiful garments, sewing advice, laughter, stories and conversations across the cutting table.  But when I look back, what I will remember most is you. Some of you have been shopping with us almost from the beginning. Some discovered us only recently. And somewhere along the way, so many of you stopped feeling like clients and simply became friends. And that is why this is so difficult to say
..Our brick-and-mortar store is coming to an end. But please don’t read that as goodbye. Darrell Thomas Textiles is NOT closing. We are changing.  Our beautiful store will be moving online, and I am genuinely excited about what comes next. I will continue searching for those extraordinary fabrics that make you stop and say, “I have to make something out of that!”   There will be new collections, markets, pop-ups, Fibrefest and, knowing me, probably a few ideas I haven’t even thought of yet. After 26 years, I still love fabric, I still love sewing and I still get excited when a beautiful new bolt arrives and I imagine what one of you might create with it. So perhaps that is how I know this is the right decision. I’m not ready to stop. I’m simply ready to do it differently. To everyone who has walked through our doors, supported our little Canadian fabric store, told a friend about us, shopped online, attended an event, supported one of our community fundraisers or simply stopped by to say hello...Thank you. You made this little dream possible for 26 incredible years. Now I am asking you for just one more thing
. Will you come with me into the next chapter? I certainly hope you will. Darrell Xoxo #ottawa #sewing #almonte #sewists #fabricstore by @darrellthomas_textiles
Italy has hundreds of years of expertise in spinning, dyeing, and weaving silk, passing specialized knowledge down through generations Many patterns begin as hand-painted artworks before being carefully translated into woven jacquards or high-definition prints. Italian mills combine vintage techniques with cutting-edge technologies (such as specialized air and wet finishing treatments) to achieve exceptional softness, fluid movement, and unique textures Common Silk Weaves & Varieties Charmeuse: A smooth fabric with a glossy front and matte back. Jacquard: Fabric featuring intricate patterns woven directly into the threads. Chiffon: A sheer, lightweight fabric with a slightly rough texture. Duchess Satin: A heavy, structured silk with a brilliant, smooth sheen. Organza: A crisp, transparent silk that holds its shape firmly. Crepe de Chine: A floating fabric with a subtle, crinkled texture. At Darrell Thomas Textiles, silk is an essential part of our inventory. We source the most beautiful silks that we can possibly find for our clientele. #silk #silkfabric #sewingsilk #hautecouture #designerfabrics by @darrellthomas_textiles
Legendary fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie, whose sequined gowns for Cher, Diana Ross, Tina Turner and other stars dazzled red carpets for decades, has sewn his final stitch. Bob Mackie dressed some of Hollywood’s biggest names over more than 50 years. His creations for celebrities like Carol Burnett, Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand stunned both performers and fans alike, and remain some of the most iconic costumes ever worn.
