With no shame of the thorns because it doesn’t make the rose of who you are any less. I’m sorry it took this long for me to love you but I’m never letting you go now. Vows out 8/7.

Vows represents not abandoning myself anymore. I didn’t have a solid foundation when it came to receiving love from men, especially men that looked like me. Those familial patterns allowed me to be involved with men in my 20s that made me feel small because I’ve called that love since I was little. It wasn’t until last year when I wrote this song after a breakup, loss of my job and the loss of my Sosa baby that I said I’m not gonna be a victim anymore. I’ve removed the weeds from the garden and I’m walking into my 30s with confidence that I’ve always been that girl. To younger me, who chose partners to match my pain instead of matching my heart, you’re safe now and you didn’t know any better. I’m so grateful that I’m still here to rewrite this story. by @dasantechicago
