Freeride Test Days

We recently spent the day with Jimmy Blackwood from @blackwood_custom_jetskis filming the full process behind building a purpose-built freeride ski here on the Gold Coast.

These machines are a completely different breed of PWC. From the lightweight resin-infused carbon-fibre and fibreglass hulls to the engine, pump setup and rider-specific components, every part of the ski is selected and assembled to handle hard landings, big surf and the punishment that comes with freeride riding.

At the heart of Jimmy’s personal build is a @dasawatercraft 1000 engine supplied through WORX Racing Components. The setup uses a +10 mm stroked crank and 89 mm piston, bringing the engine to just under 1,000cc, paired with a 155 jet unit and 12/18 big-hub impeller.

The complete YouTube video takes you inside Blackwood Custom Jetskis and follows the process from a completely bare hull through to a finished, personalised freeride machine. Jimmy also explains why he chooses DASA engines, what goes into each build and why he believes the Australian freestyle and freeride scene is about to reach another level.
