Like Swimmers is out TODAY. Get it at your local shop. 🕯️🔥

This book is full of DEATH, but it should be a fun read! It’s colored in bright pastels! Thanks to @nyrcomics for the beautiful production: Lucas, Anika, Evan, Will, Brian and George 🙏. Covers were done with Joe Kessler. (3 for 3 in great nyrc production on my books, 4 if you count The Smythes.)

And thanks as always to my friends for putting up with me during the mood swings of comic creation. “Comics don’t draw themselves, you know!”

I’m doing a book tour for this, mostly with the brilliant and charming cartoonist and animator Jesse Moynihan, who finished his epic FORMING– Now in a large pink hardcover book from Fantagraphics.

Consider coming to an event and communing with like-minded people. Most of these will have entertaining live readings. The first event was in Richmond at Studio Two Three last week and it went very well.

Sept 9th, Brooklyn, NY, FROG FARM group reading - 7pm

Sept 10th, Brooklyn, NY, DESERT ISLAND signing - 7pm

Sept 11th, Baltimore, MD, ATOMIC BOOKS reading and signing - 7pm

Oct 1st, Los Angeles, CA, HEAVY MANNERS LIBRARY art show - 7pm

Oct 3rd, Portland, OR, FLOATING WORLD COMICS - signing and then screening at Clinton St. Theater 4pm, 7pm.

Oct 9th-10th, Philadelphia, PA, PARTNERS AND SON art show and PCX festival. *Warning: No Jesse here

Original art from LIKE SWIMMERS will be on display (and for sale) at the following places:

Ada gallery, Richmond VA (Sept)

Heavy Manners Library, Los Angeles CA (Oct)

Partners and Son, Philadelphia PA (opens Oct 9th) by @dash_shaw

@dash_shaw joins me to chat about his latest book from New York Review Comics, Like Swimmers. It’s a colourful work that looks at a difficult moment through different perspectives. His previous work Blurry was one of my favourites when it was released and rereading it for the interview was a delight and still just as engaging and pulling me in.

Dash is a cartoonist who keeps pushing his work further and into different directions with each successive book. I am always excited to see what he is doing.

This podcast is brought to you thanks to support from the Canada Council for the Arts.

If you would like to send comics for me to check out, please mail to. I am always happy to see new work.

Here’s a couple of recent releases from the incredible New York Review Comics (@nyrcomics) that we highly recommend checking out!

Like Swimmers by Dash Shaw (@dash_shaw), who previously did the incredible book Blurry, delivers this beautifully painted and exhilarating murder mystery.

The Children of Light is a dazzling and spellbinding, pulpy sci-fi comic by Belgian cartoonist Jean Pleyers in the 1980s. The new edition collects the two originally released volumes translated into English by Luke Burns and includes an interview with Pleyers by Tom Oldham from co-publisher Breakdown Press (@breakdownpress).

You can order either of these two comics by clicking the link in our bio.

Like Swimmers by @dash_shaw is out TODAY! Check out @publisherswkly ’s starred review of the book:

“Shaw imbues the pandemic’s inertia with the smoky musk of detective fiction . . . In this Rashomon-like whodunit, the truth grows hazier as the clues accumulate. Art comics fans will find that Shaw’s kaleidoscopic story lingers long after its delirious close.” by @dash_shaw
