Let’s talk about assists. 🧘🏾‍♀️✨ How many times did Dasha assist me in this video?••First things first: CONSENT. Every student is different, and it’s important to respect how they want to experience their practice.We try to connect with our students so we can better understand their goals, movement patterns, and what they’re working toward in their asana practice. That relationship helps us offer more intentional guidance throughout class.And if touching sweaty students grosses you out (trust me, I get it 😭), remember that hands-on assists aren’t the only option. Props are your bestie. Verbal cues are essential. You can also use the back of your hand, your forearm, your foot, demonstrations, and other creative ways to help students find more depth, awareness, and alignment in a pose.Now for the purpose of THIS video… Dasha was feeling extra generous with the assists 🤭😂But in a typical class, we try to connect with each student at minimum twice— with consent of course. #yogaclass #yogainstructors #yogaassist by @dasha_lyric

One of my favorite things that I learned in yoga teacher training was how to do a great assist (shout out Lucas & the rest of the BSYTT staff 🤭✨). I’m always open to allowing instructors to guide me deeper into poses so that I can prevent injury and maximize each asana. A good assist creates safety and space, allowing for practitioners to be more aware of our bodies. Consent first always!
