The world's largest economy has no train in the global top ten for speed.

China's Shanghai Maglev leads at 460 km/h. China also ranks two more trains at 350 km/h each. The US's fastest train, the Amtrak Acela, runs at around 240 km/h, slower than Morocco's Al Boraq, which operates at 320 km/h and became Africa's first high-speed rail line in 2018.

The full top ten spans just 160 km/h from first to last.

The age group you might expect to be least online lost the most money to internet scams in 2025.

Americans 60 and older reported $7.7 billion in losses to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center last year. That's 37% of the $20.9 billion total reported across all age groups, coming from a single demographic. Their losses were also up 59% from 2024, which means the problem isn't just large; it's accelerating.

The top loss category for older adults was investment fraud, accounting for $3.5 billion of their total. These aren't unsophisticated victims falling for obvious tricks. Cryptocurrency investment schemes, government impersonation scams, and romance scams were among the leading types, many designed to build trust over weeks or months before any money moves.

The world's third most valuable education company built its business on a product it gives away for free.

Duolingo is valued at $6.77 billion, ahead of Laureate Education at $4.95 billion and Grand Canyon Education at $3.93 billion. Both of those companies run physical campuses. Duolingo runs an app, and its core language-learning product costs nothing to download or use.

The revenue comes from Duolingo Plus subscriptions and advertising, which means the company's growth depends on getting as many people as possible into the free product first, then converting a slice of them. That's a fundamentally different model from campus-based education businesses, where you pay for the product before you ever experience it.

At the top of the ranking, Pearson leads at $9.45 billion, with New Oriental just behind at $9.10 billion. Eight of the top ten companies are American. The two at #1 and #2 are not.

The Dodgers made more money than any other MLB team. ⚾💰

In Forbes’ 2025 revenue ranking, the Los Angeles Dodgers generated $752 million, narrowly ahead of the New York Yankees at $728 million.

The gap widens sharply after the top two. The Chicago Cubs ranked third at $584 million, followed by the Boston Red Sox at $574 million.

But there’s an interesting twist: revenue and team value tell different stories.

The Yankees were valued at $8.2 billion, compared with $6.8 billion for the Dodgers. So while Los Angeles generated more revenue, New York remained baseball’s most valuable franchise.

That difference comes down to more than one season’s income. Brand strength, market size, media rights, sponsorship potential, and future earning power all contribute to a team’s overall value.

China didn’t just take the lead in solar. It pulled away from the rest of the field. ☀️

Over the past decade, China’s solar capacity has surged to around 1,202 GW by the end of 2025.

The U.S., India, Japan, and Germany have all expanded too, but none has matched China’s pace. The gap becomes especially striking when you watch the countries move through the ranking year by year.

Solar has become the biggest driver of renewable capacity growth, and China has been at the center of that expansion.

This racing chart shows just how quickly the global solar race has changed.

The US ranks 134th out of 163 countries on the Global Peace Index 2026, one spot below Venezuela.

The index, published by the Institute for Economics & Peace, scores countries on safety and security, ongoing conflict, and militarization. Iceland tops it for the 19th year in a row. Russia comes last.

The US slide came largely from inside its own borders. Its political instability score worsened 38.5% in a single year, the biggest move on that indicator since the index began. Violent demonstrations worsened by 37.5% ⚠️

The report puts US political violence at its highest level since the 1970s, with 85% of Americans saying they believe politically motivated violence is increasing.

Canada, right next door, ranks 14th.

🎯 Four places lost in one year, and the IEP's main explanation is political instability at home.

Five footballers. $719 million. ⚽💰

That's what Soccer's five stars in Forbes' 2026 top 20 highest-paid athletes earned, nearly a third of the group's $2.26 billion total.

Basketball also put five players in the top 20. They made $547.7 million combined, about $171 million less. 🏀

So where does the gap come from? Mostly one man.

Cristiano Ronaldo earned $300 million, tying Floyd Mayweather's 2015 total as the biggest year Forbes has recorded since the list began in 1990. Al-Nassr paid $235 million of it on the pitch, and endorsements added $65 million.

🆚 He out-earned basketball's top earner, LeBron James, by $162.2 million. Take each sport's No. 1 out, and the remaining four players on each side sit just $9.1 million apart.

🎯 Soccer's lead isn't really a soccer story. It's one 41-year-old's paycheck.

China has topped the Asian Games gold medal table at every single edition since 1982. Every one. Eleven in a row.

Before that, Japan dominated the Games. Japan won the top spot from the very first Asian Games in 1951 all the way through 1978, eight consecutive editions without dropping to second. By their last win in Bangkok, they had 70 gold medals. China had 51 and was still rising.

Four years later in New Delhi, China took 61 golds. Japan took 57. The throne had changed, and it has not changed back since.

By the 2023 Games in Hangzhou, China had 201 gold medals, Japan 52, and South Korea 42. South Korea has held third place with remarkable consistency for four decades. India, meanwhile, recorded its best-ever performance at those Games with 28 gold medals and 107 total medals, a record haul that put it fourth on the table.

That India figure matters because for most of the Games' history, India was not a genuine podium contender. In 1982, the host nation finished fifth, with 13 golds. Forty-one years later, they more than doubled that count and climbed a place. A changing of the guard takes a generation. Sometimes it takes two.

England has 2,301 golf courses, which is 28% of everything Europe has across 46 countries. That number alone is striking, but the comparison that makes it land harder is Scotland.

Scotland invented the game. It has 522 courses, which sounds like a lot until you compare it to England's figure and realize England has more than four times as many. France ranks second in Europe with 885 courses, and even that is 1,416 short of England, a gap larger than the entire golf inventory of Spain, Ireland, or Italy on its own.

The top five countries, England, France, Germany, Sweden, and Scotland, together account for 62.6% of Europe's 8,155 courses. The remaining 41 countries share the other 37.4%, showing how concentrated golf infrastructure is on this continent.
