What if consistency is more important than intensity when it comes to sports training? Should we be building better habits with athletes so they are more consistent with their workouts, nutritions, and recovery over time instead of going all out? #datainsports #data #sports #podcastclip #sportsscience by @datainsports
Everyone has their own journey, but it does not mean they have to go at it alone. As @alex.sirard of @evoathletics.ca describes in this clip: surround yourself with the best people. But what that means is to find the best coaches who are right for you. Dig deeper than just top-level certifications and see if they are a fit based on your athletic development's needs at a given time. There are so many great coaches in the world, so reach out to them if there aren't any in your area! #DataInSports #EvoAthletics #PodcastClip #Advice #StoryTime #Coach #Coaching #Development #AthleticDevelopment #Sports #Performance #SportsPerformance by @datainsports
Why efficiency matters more than weight in training for athletes. Sometimes, especially with central nervous system fatigue, it's not about how much weight is on the bar. It’s about moving with intent - truly efficient, sharp, and purposeful. @alex.sirard sees athletes coming in tired, dehydrated, under-slept, and drained. Putting more weight on the bar can actually set them back. It’s not about lifting heavy; it’s about maintaining their speed and form under stress. That’s why @evoathletics.ca uses Velocity-Based Training (VBT). It lets athletes focus on quality over quantity. If their speed drops, they add load so they keep moving with intention. They are teaching them to be efficient, not just strong. Because sometimes, the best way to push forward is to lift smarter, not harder. #DataInSports #EvoAthletics #PodcastClip #VBT #AthletePerformance #Training #SportsScience #ValocityBasedTraining #Fitness #Workout by @datainsports
A lot of people still view VR headsets as gaming gadgets or toys. @mikeprusports included, until he spoke with @alex.sirard of @evoathletics.ca last week. But when you look under the hood, VR is actually becoming the ultimate delivery system for Artificial Intelligence in sports training. It’s not just about what you see inside the headset, it’s about how AI processes what you do. How AI-Driven VR is Changing the Game: *Intelligent Data Interpretation: It’s more than just tracking. The system builds 2D and 3D models from your movements, using AI to analyze your mechanics and give you instant, actionable feedback. *Virtual Coaching on Demand: Immersive environments can integrate AI-driven coaching prompts, guiding you through complex scenarios and adapting to your skill level in real-time. *Overcoming Physical Limitations: No ice? No shooters? No net? AI can procedurally replicate those exact conditions. Athletes can get high-fidelity cognitive reps and maintain situational awareness anywhere, anytime. The Takeaway: It’s not about replacing the physical grind of sports. It’s about using AI to maximize an athlete's cognitive load, decision-making, and muscle memory without adding extra wear and tear on the body. When you blend the immersive environment of VR with the analytical brain of AI, it stops being a toy and becomes an elite, data-driven training tool. #DataInSports #EvoAthletics #PodcastClip #VR #VRTraining #AI #Cognitive #Training #Hockey #HockeyGoalie #AthletePerformance #VirtualReality by @datainsports
Episode 17 of @datainsports with @alex.sirard of @evoathletics.ca is now live! Full episode link in the bio! It turns out that goaltending is a lot more than just angles and positioning - there's a ton of data and technology behind developing today's hockey goalies. In this episode, we learn about why Alex started Evo Athletics, which comes from his own playing experience as well as desire help others. Further insights include: 🏒 Dynamic data-driven tailoring is the future of athlete development: Effective athlete growth relies not on generic programs but on continuously assessing individual needs and adjusting training based on real-time data and layered analysis. 🏒 Intent is the unseen force that unlocks maximum physical and cognitive potential: Training effectiveness hinges less on the load and more on the athlete’s purposeful intent behind each movement or decision. 🏒 The complexity of elite goaltending underscores the importance of layered, context-aware analytics: Performance metrics like save percentage only scratch the surface; the deepest insights emerge from analyzing shot context, brain response, and biomechanics. 🏒 Technology should serve as an interpretative partner, not just data collector: : Gathering data is futile without the expertise to interpret it meaningfully - raw data is just noise without contextual understanding. 🏒 Long-term athlete development is moving toward fluid reassessment rather than static templates: Adaptive programming, guided by continuous re-evaluation, surpasses static routines, aligning training with evolving athlete profiles. #DataInSports #EVOAthletics #Goalie #Hockey #IceHockey #SportsTech #Podcast #HockeyGoalie #VRTraining #VBT #AthletePerformance #AthleteDevelopment #SportsScience #DataScience by @datainsports
Are we in a new era of Polish hockey? @mikeprusports really wishes this post was happening under different circumstances. Ben, of @polishpuck_, and Mike previewed last week's IIHF Div. 1A Men's Ice Hockey World Championships for @datainsports Episode 16. While they had high hopes for promotion, the team fell short in it's final game against Lithuania against Friday night. At a micro-level, the players still have to play, and they didn't deliver. But at a macro-level, is Polish hockey going in the right direction? Are we in a new era? Well that depends. Based on what Ben and Mike discussed, the trend seems to be positive, especially with the appointment of Krzysztof Woźniak last summer as PZHL President. Some other data, in terms of where national team players across levels are playing, results from this past season's championships, etc. may how otherwise. Regardless, they have high hopes for the new leadership, though let's see how the numbers play out in the next couple to few years. #DataInSports #PolishPuck #PZHL #PolskiHokej #Podcastclip #IIHF #Poland #Polska #IceHockey #Future #Leadership #Prediction by @datainsports
🇵🇱🏒 Special Episode 16 of @datainsports with Ben of @polishpuck_ is now live! Ben joined us again yesterday to give an update on the state of Polish hockey since we spoke 8 months ago in August 2025 on Episode 3. We spent most of the conversation previewing the IIHF 1A Men's Ice Hockey World Championships that begins tomorrow in Sosnowiec, Poland. Ben brought the data and the facts, while @mikeprusports brought his very biased emotion-based takes. On a personal note, this is Mike's 10th World Championships cheering for the White & Red, which is a wild milestone - and this is the first "away game" recording for Data in Sports, which was done in his hotel in Poland last night. Link to the full episode is in the bio! #DataInSports #PolishPuck #PodcastClip #StoryTime #Polska #Poland #IIHF #NHL #IceHockey by @datainsports
This isn’t motivation. This is data. Most athletes train hard. Very few are measured correctly. Jordan Dobie didn’t “get better” during camp… She was engineered to peak. From Feb 28 → Fight Night: ✔ Reaction speed improved ✔ Power output increased ✔ Recovery became elite ✔ Mental state reached automatic This isn’t motivation. This is a system. #ProAthleteMetrics #FightCamp #PerformanceIntelligence by @datainsports
One of the best takes on the most practical use of AI and analytics in human performance that we've heard lately. To be fair, it does align with a few @datainsports guests, though there's something about @tomasz_janas101's delivery that just hits hard. TJ played, coached, and scouted at the national development level, so this take comes from years of lived experience and pattern recognition. Use analytics as an information tool, not a decision-making tool and let's stop trying to clone athletes because they are all different - and special - in their own way. @proathletemetrics #DataInSports #ProAthleteMetrics #Data #Sports #Analytics #AI #DecisionMaking #Athlete #HumanPerformance #PodcastClip by @datainsports
@mikeprusports wishes he had this 60 second interaction with @tomasz_janas101 (of @proathletemetrics) when he was training as an athlete 20 years ago. You didn't have the kind of data that athletes and coaches have access to today, which meant that coaches trained based on how they were trained. And for Mike it went something like: push, push, push until you collapse. The data and research now shows that you have risk of injury when you overload an athlete. But more to the point of what TJ describes in this clip, which applies to developing athletes across all sports: you have to be an athlete first. This isn't necessarily an argument against sport-specific training, but to understand the requirements of a sport & position and train to become an all around athlete first. So much of the data for the benchmarks are out there, so don't guess and check like Mike did... or more often it was just guess. #DataInSports #ProAthleteMetrics #Data #Sports #Athlete #Development #Performance #PodcastClip #StoryTime #Training #HumanPerformance by @datainsports
Sometimes, the hardest thing to admit is how much your feelings can distort your decisions, especially when you're successful in the short term. @tomasz_janas101 of @proathletemetrics learned this the hard way while balancing his own discretion versus systematic methods. For a long time, he believed that gut feelings were just as valuable as the data. It turns out, that’s a recipe for inconsistency. The moment he leaned into data and let go of feelings, everything changed. Short-term gains may have still tempted him, but he knew the long game was about numbers, not emotions. It made him realize: the real challenge isn’t making quick wins, it’s staying disciplined enough to trust the data over your own biases. That’s where growth truly begins. And this is another example of how other industries, such as trading the markets, can help drive better decision-making in sports. #DataInSports #ProAthleteMetrics #Data #Sports #Intuition #DecisionMaking #StockTrading #Stocks #StoryTime #Lesson #PodcastClip by @datainsports
