Real car audio knowledge. Books, manuals & custom box plans. No myths, no hype — just the truth. Where the information's at.

Sony is leaving car audio. After 40 years.

No press conference. No big announcement. Just a letter to dealers. Sony ships car audio through December 31st — and then it's over. Mobile ES, the speakers, the subs, the amps. All of it, finished.

This is the company that put the first CD player in a car back in 1984.

Which Sony lived in your dash? Tell us the model and the car it rode in. Forty years of stories don't live in a company archive — they live with you.

Precision Power's Art Series — the amplifiers that turned the amp rack into a gallery. Serious power underneath, hand-finished art on top. Did you ever run an Art Series amp, or did you just stare at them in the shop? by @datboombooks

Do you remember it?

Early 2000s, Soundstream cast a human face into the heatsink of an amplifier — bronze-finished, staring up at you from your trunk. The HR2 was rated at 450 watts a channel, and a German magazine benched it at 501. The face was art. The numbers were business.

But whose face is it? Soundstream never said. More than twenty years later, nobody knows.

Fuse Basics — the fuse protects the wire, not the amp. Helio walks through it the right way: the front fuse at the battery, branch fuses at the block, and why your ground is half the circuit. Has a fuse ever given you trouble? by @datboombooks

We spent the night cleaning up the store. Scrubbed every shelf, fixed every page, made the whole thing beautiful — and cut prices while we were at it, because knowledge should not need a loan. These are real books: ten-page quick manuals, forty-page deep dives, a dictionary over a hundred, and the flagship at 461 pages. Real information, real numbers, every formula worked out loud. When was the last time a shop showed you the book instead of just selling you the amp? by @datboombooks

Thirty years in the Expert lanes. A retired NASCAR Cup car carrying a sound system where the race weight used to be. And one October weekend in 2012 where he took everything in the building.

This is Mark Eldridge, the man IASCA eventually asked to teach the judges.

Were you in the lanes for any of it? by @datboombooks

I got out of the game — not 'cause I wanted to. I got older. That's all that changed.

Thirty-plus years learning this trade the hard way — blown amps, burned wire, every mistake paid for. Knowledge like that used to pass shop to shop, and half of it's already gone with the old-timers who never wrote it down. So it's written down now: 42 books and manuals, so it gets passed on.

Who taught you this trade — and are you passing it on? by @datboombooks

DATBOOM ain't just loud cars.

Thirty years in the trade — competition vehicles built to shake the meter, and home cinemas built to shake the couch. Same ears. Same math. Same standard: do it right. That experience is what's written down in the books.

Where did you learn the trade — in a shop, in a driveway, or the hard way? by @datboombooks

This is acoustical and electrical engineering. Not weekend-warrior stuff.

Thirty years. Day in, day out. Competition vehicles. Home cinemas. Trade work — written down in the books by the trade, for anybody willing to learn it right.

Bring your questions here — they actually get answered.

On this page, real questions get straight answers from people who know. Jokes, memes, and cross-chatter on somebody's real question? That gets booted. Real questions. Straight answers. No circus.

What's the car audio question you've never gotten a straight answer on? by @datboombooks

Five books on the DATBOOM shelf are free. Not samples — books.

The Factory Build — a whole system under two grand. The $4,000 Build. Subwoofer Break-In: Myth or Must. Killing Noise. Capacitor Myths. The free ones are the audition: read one, check our numbers, then decide if the big books are worth your money. Link is in the bio.

Which free one are you starting with? by @datboombooks

You keep asking what we actually sell. Roll call.

42 books. Mobile Audio Mastery — 461 pages, the whole trade in one book. The Dictionary. Box Building 101. Troubleshooting. The Complete Amplifier Handbook. Charging Systems Deep Dive. DSP Tuning. Ohm's Law — the real one, with the math. And five of them are free, because the free ones are the audition: read one, check our numbers, then decide if the big books are worth your money.
