Nobody tells you this about time: you don’t run out of it. You just get more of it to celebrate.

I wish I had done this more, and here’s the thing, I still get to. Another year isn’t a deadline closing in, it’s a door opening wider. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven” and this, right now, is a good one.

I don’t regret what I’ve done. Every version of me that showed up, tired, unsure, stretched thin, built something worth celebrating today. And I’m just as grateful for what hasn’t happened yet, for the mystery still folded up inside the years ahead, for the man I haven’t finished becoming. He who began a good work in me will carry it on to completion, and honestly? I’m excited to see it.

And to everyone whose been a part of these trips round the sun, thank you! You made the hysteria worth it on this roller coaster.

So here’s to what was, what’s still unwritten, and everything good that’s coming. Dum Vivimus Vivamus.

Happy 25th to me (cause I can’t account for the first few years of my life)

Have you enjoyed interacting with me? taken in Harare, Zimbabwe by @datije_rge

⚠️ HARD HAT AREA, MAN UNDER CONSTRUCTION⚠️

6 Months In — Let’s Reflect!
PS // I am God’s workmanship, a husband under construction.

There’s a powerful life principle rooted in Scripture: it is harder to maintain than it is to obtain. This has been the first and perhaps most profound lesson I’ve learned in marriage.

To get married, you can pitch personality. But to stay married, you MUST build CHARACTER. I’ve come to deeply appreciate that in this sacred institute, we might come as we are, but we are not permitted, by the beauty of a God-centric marriage, to remain as we are. Flaws and blemishes may arrive with us, but they cannot remain where Christ is present.

This has brought me to a sobering conclusion: there is no alternative. If we do not love like Christ, then as men, we have failed to love completely.

There are no rules we can set for ourselves that can keep us from breaking marital vows. No boundary is strong enough to stop frustrations. Like our first Adam, we are lawbreakers by nature. The only safeguard is Christlikeness. Only when we adopt His nature can we escape our desire to default and to fault.

Maximized Manhood puts it this way:
> “Manhood and Christlikeness are synonymous.”
> “Man has conquered the mountains, the oceans, even space. But the greatest achievement of all is when a man conquers himself.”

"He who rules his spirit is better than he who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32 AMP)

The cross, the acceptance of Christ, is the place of divine exchange. You never leave the cross the same way you came. At the cross, we trade:
* Guilt → for acquittal
* Repentance → for faith
* Sorrow → for joy
* Sin → for righteousness
* Stupidity → for wisdom
* Ignorance → for eternal knowledge
* Disease → for healing
* Rejection → for acceptance
* Impotence → for power
You get the idea. The cross takes the old life and gives us a new creation in Christ Jesus.

And so, this is my first prayer as a husband under construction: I am a man. I am a king. I am a warrior.
Yet I come, I lay down my sword, I lay down my crown and I fall on my knees before the Cross of Christ. As You carried Yours, and as You bid me, help me to carry mine,
Lord, give me courage. taken in Harare, Zimbabwe by @datije_rge

The husband she wanted vs the husband she got 😂

I took some time and paused to ponder why Paul, in his charge to husbands, didn’t simply echo John 3:16? If love is one and the same, why didn’t he write, “Husbands, love your wives as God so loved the world, that He gave His Son”? Why was the Apostle specific in his epistle to the Ephesians, “Husband, Love your wife as Christ loved HIS church and gave his life for HER (Very Specific)”?

I think because marital love is not a broad, generalised command, it is covenantal, intentional, and deeply personal. The love of Christ for the Church is not a distant affection; it is a sacrificial, intimate devotion. In the same way, a husband’s love is not about being “a good husband” in qualitative theory, it is about being HER husband in intentional practice.

This has been my observation. I tried to embody the ideal husband, the textbook version. I read the books, listened to the podcasts, had the chats with the boys and the married for decades. Only to discover that what I was learning, though usually wise, was not my wife’s fit cut.

In doing all my research, I had missed the truth: God did not call me to be a husband, but to be HER husband. Love in marriage is not one-size-fits-all—it is tailor-made, compatibility-tested, and uniquely crafted by God for the covenant you share, specifically and uniquely to the two of you. My mistake was to research women and wives. My key lesson, is to learn MY wife.

I stand to be corrected, after all, I am just a HUSBAND UNDER CONSTRUCTION. 👷‍♂️

Meet a Loeries Grand Prix holder. 🏆
(Okay, a photo of me holding one. We didn’t win. Yet.)

Cape Town showed me what the best creative work in Africa looks like up close. Great ideas aren’t enough. The winners had a sharp insight, flawless craft and the nerve to see it through.

Two pieces I’m still thinking about:
🔥 @joepublic , African Time Piece: it shows that for us, time isn’t what the clock says, it’s what the moment carries.
🔥 @dejavusocial , BMW: The case against corners: it took me straight back to childhood, when bumping into corners was daily life. The film craft was on point.

This year we made Finalist. Next year, we’re not coming back to take photos with the trophy. We’re coming back to take the stage.

So the work starts now: tougher briefs, sharper ideas, better craft, and a team that holds itself to Loeries standards on every project, not just the ones we plan to enter.

To everyone who inspired me in Cape Town, thank you. See you next year. 🇿🇼

The one thing that's been pressing on my heart!

“Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (AMPC)

This verse has been sitting heavy on me lately. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden, so why do I try to hide my light? I show up as a Christian during the “evangelism days,” Sunday mornings, the special events, the planned moments, but what about the everyday? The ordinary Tuesday. The quiet work. The unseen decisions. That’s where the light either shines or stays tucked away.

I just want to do the best I can, every day, not just on the days it’s easy or expected, and I desire for those moments to shine so bright that it'd be enough to point back to Him.

I pray I unmute my shine. I pray I lose my desire to fit into my lukewarm world.

Let my light so shine. Not just today. Every day.

Light doesn’t just illuminate a stage, it decides what the crowd feels before a single note plays.

Got to be part of the lighting crew at this year’s Shoko Festival, and there’s nothing quite like watching a stage shift the second the rig comes alive, energy, color, focus, all built in real time from the booth. Being behind that, shaping how people experienced every set, is a kind of privilege I don’t take lightly (pun intended).

And it had me thinking, off the stage, in our everyday, ordinary lives, are we letting our own light shine that bright? Bright enough that people don’t just see us, but see God through us?

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16

Grateful for @shokofestival and the entire lighting team @phenomenal_lightingzw for the platform and the craft. This one stays with me. 🎇

The version of yourself you perform for other people is always less interesting than the one you’re hiding. It just never feels that way from the inside.

The parts of yourself you think are “too much” for people are usually the parts they’d actually connect with. And the parts you think they’d like to see are the parts they’ve seen a thousand times already.

We’ve been introducing ourselves for too long. It’s high time Zimbabwe knew our name.

Bergast House, Diamond Award, Best Outdoor Media, National Exceptional Marketing Awards, hosted by the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe.

Not a nomination. Not a runner-up. The top of the category.

This belongs to the whole team behind the work, the strategists, the creatives, the people who showed up when it mattered. We’re grateful to build things that get seen, and grateful for the people we build them with.

Remember the name. This is only the beginning. taken in Golden Conifer Functions Venue by @datije_rge

Food for thought: “A good dancer knows when to leave the stage. I’m not a good dancer; I’m a better dancer. I know when to introduce new dance moves. I’ve done everything that is required of me to do here in Zimbabwe.”
