1. It’s not just about playing music
You’re controlling energy, emotion, and flow — not just pressing play.

2. Most DJs don’t make money (at first)
You’ll play free gigs, bad slots, empty rooms… for a while.

3. Your taste matters more than your transitions
A perfect mix won’t save bad track selection.

4. Social media matters (more than you think)
Sad truth: promoters often book reach before skill.

5. Yes… some DJs fake it
Pre-recorded sets, ghost producers — it exists.

6. Equipment doesn’t make you good
You don’t need CDJ-3000s to be a great DJ.

7. Reading the crowd is a skill
And it takes time

8. You’ll get compared constantly
“Play like this DJ”, “why didn’t you play that track” — get used to it.

9. Networking is half the game
Being good isn’t enough if nobody knows you exist.

10. If you don’t love music deeply… quit early
Because this industry will test you hard.

1.Most of your growth happens in empty rooms.
2.Being booked doesn’t always mean being respected.
3.You’ll doubt yourself more than anyone else ever will.
4.Consistency matters more when no one is watching.
5.Your best tracks might get ignored at first.
6.Private gigs fund the dream—don’t let them define it.
7.Burnout comes from chasing validation, not hard work.
8.Your sound will cost you opportunities before it creates them.
9.Loneliness is part of the journey—so is belief.
10.If you stay long enough, the right people find you. by @datlowmusic
