Full of rage—and beneath it, an immeasurable amount of grief. Our joy is revolutionary.

Over the last few years, I’ve been developing several bodies of work, one devoted to my matrilineal community in Central America. I’m going to be bold as fuck and ask you to rework your language and your narrow ideas of what an Indigenous person looks like—and what the word “Indian” even means.

My people on my mother’s side are not Latinx. We are not Hispanic. We are not the prized possessions of our colonizers. This is our land—land we traveled, cared for, and lived on for centuries before borders were imposed. This is our continent, not the property of those who currently call the shots. We are not immigrants. Period.

While this is happening, our people are being caged in ICE detention centers—denied medical care, raped, forcibly separated from our children, subjected to prolonged solitary confinement, coerced into sterilizations, and left to die of treatable illnesses. People are disappeared into these facilities, abused, neglected, and dehumanized in the name of “law” and “order.” This is genocide in a modern uniform.

This is not a master image, but an outtake—an Indigenous woman reclaiming the camera to tell our stories through our own lens. I challenge you to divest from white photographers profiting off our bodies and begin uplifting Indigenous artists, north and south. Ask people how they identify. Some are still shamed into silence; others reclaim their lineage proudly, despite the violence we continue to endure. Be smart enough to know the difference. The language you use matters.

I pray daily for the Eagle–Condor prophecy—that we fully return to sovereignty and reinherit our lands. Uplift us. Listen. Educate yourself. Redistribute the wealth. Settlers: step the fuck up. Silence is violence. Your comfort is built on our suffering, and your greed will haunt you. (In frame, one of my language teachers Nanztin Josephina Vásquez)

“I am there before you, all around you, and inside you with feelings of immense pleasure. I am a complete being. There is nothing inside me that resists me. Everything is in complete unity. Everything is in its place; I am an invulnerable Consciousness; I am the perpetual dance of Totality. The one who does not know me says ‘no’ when the entire universe is saying ‘yes,’ and this negation of my vast acquiescence leads this individual to impotence. But the one who becomes entirely pure and concave, who allows me entrance, will begin to dance with me and to say what I say. This individual experiences universal love, complete thought, cosmic desire, and inconceivable life force. If you reach me, which is to say if you develop me within yourself, you shall taste the supreme happiness that is the happiness of living. To achieve this you must dissolve within the ardent jewel of my presence. Like four rivers returning to their single source, leave behind the blind swarm of bees that are your concepts to melt within my bliss; leave behind the herd of
your feelings to drown within my infinite exaltation; offer me the demented mob of your desires, so they might enrich, like an exquisite delicacy, my constant creativity. And may all your physical matter with all its inescapable needs surrender to this transparency that animates me. You shall then be master of your world. Inside your libido will no longer be in revolt, your
desires will cease to drown you, your thoughts will not destroy you, and your body will pose no obstacle to your life. You will be full and united to me in dance, joy, and immeasurable celebration.” All hail and bow down to my queen @woahhussy for her magic as she leads us into the golden age from the settler colonial hell scape. You survived a close encounter with death just as you infused the world with your power so that we could see hope and reimagine a new path. I love you, Ramona. If any one if any one wants to PayPal me some cash flow- please do so I can pass on to her so she can rest and heal.Flowers: @annabelleluflora

These are my people. Witnessing what Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has done to my people—and to all Indigenous peoples of the South—is an unbearable weight to carry every day. The forced separations, detentions, and deportations are not just policies; they are acts of violence against people who have existed on these lands long before borders were drawn.I see whites posting about how wrong it is to question “Native Americans” about their citizenship, yet I want to ask all people—native or not—what do you call the original people of a land? You call them Indigenous. You recognize their deep connection to their homeland. You acknowledge their survival despite centuries of colonial violence. But when those same people are pushed into extreme poverty—when they are displaced, forced to migrate for survival, and stripped of their dignity—you suddenly call them immigrants?
Let’s be clear: who is being deported? The very people whose ancestors have lived on these lands for thousands of years. The same people whose labor sustains economies across the Americas—harvesting the coffee you drink, the chocolate you eat, the fruit you enjoy, often under brutal conditions. The exploitation of Indigenous labor is not new; it is a continuation of colonial violence. And to those Natives who claim that Indigenous people from the south “aren’t Native” because they come from across an imposed border—did you forget that colonization happened here first? The divisions between North and South are colonial inventions. There is no other racial or ethnic group on this planet that is forced to quantify their existence, to endure such extreme suffering—lacking food, water, and basic rights—just to be recognized as belonging to their own land. This is intentional. They divide us so they can continue to exploit us. They make us question our worth, our history, and each other. #nahuat #wetplate #kuskatan #cuscatlán #landback #native #nativeamericansoftheamericas
