Frank and I went to Fitapreta Vinhos yesterday. We had the “Wine Geek” flight (of course) and we were the first patrons eat in Fita Preta’s new restaurant! The food was excellent! Lots of wine parings too! Antonio Maçanita was there too! by @dave.spriggs1

June 5 - We left the Adriatic Sea and working our way to the Tyrrhenian Sea. We stopped in Alberobello to have a very fun tasting of local wines and cheeses, breads, etc. The real draw is the architecture of dry stone roofs. by @dave.spriggs1

I attended a wine pairing an tasting dinner. The was hosted by Roscioli Rimessa. The highlights for me were the first two pairings. The first pairing was an “unfinished” sparkling wine. It was hazy! The pairing was a 3 different types of Buffalo Mozzarella. The second was a Verdicchio and the pairing was goat cheese, smoked mackerel, and a pesto. It turned out that the mix of all of those ingredients were much better than separately by @dave.spriggs1

Yesterday I went to Gelateria Della Palma. They have 150 flavors of Gelati and Sorbetti. Wow!! Monster scoops and some one of the best cones I have seen. I went back today! by @dave.spriggs1

I’m in Venice. I suddenly hear opera singing from outside I my hotel. It was so loud that I thought that it was a recording. I opened my window and … you can see what I saw by @dave.spriggs1

I’ve been in Venice for a few days. I’ve been hiking around and putting in a lot of miles on to reduce some of the weight I gained with all the Ports I consumed. Today I finally made it to Torcello. This was the first island that was inhabited in the Venetian lagoon. The church and campanile are stunning! It’s too bad that I could not take pictures inside the church. by @dave.spriggs1

Here is the special tasting with Dominic Symington. It was in the tasting room of Dow’s at Quinta do Bomfim. This was a lineup with the 1970 and 1966. Both of those years are some of the best Vintage Ports that I have ever tasted. The lineup was:

1970 Graham’s
1970 Dow’s
1970 Warre’s
1970 Gould Campbell
1970 Smith Woodhouse

1966 Graham’s
1966 Dow’s
1966 Warre’s
1966 Gould Campbell

What a lineup!! (The Symington’s did not own Smith Woodhouse in 1966). My favorite of the tasting was 1970 Graham’s. My second was a tie between 1966 Graham’s and 1970 Dow’s. I guess I’m a Graham guy! 😊. I want to say “Thank You” to Dominic for coming up to Bomfim to guide us in the tasting and giving lots of info about the history. 👏😁

Graham’s was a special stop for me. Dominic Symington led our tasting. It was great to see him! The tasting was made up of all Vintage Ports. Most of the tastings that we had at other producers were tawny Port focused. This line up had the all of very special of the Graham’s Stone Terraces that have been made. Wow! by @dave.spriggs1
