The Daytona runs deep in the story of @kingpush. He was referencing the watch in his music as far back as 2011, years before it lent its name and ethos to one of his most celebrated albums.

After featuring Pusha T in Volume 13 of HODINKEE Magazine, we had the rare opportunity to sit down again. This time, he joins @benclymer for Talking Watches to trace the story from lyric to album to watch collection. Some BTS of our shoot with Pusha T.

The shoot was less than 1.5 hours of @kingpush busy schedule in NY that day, but we made the most of it. Shoutouts to my guys @shota_new_york and @maxrosentown for making the magic happen on short notice. I even got my former college roommate @peabe coming in at the 11th hour with the animation. And @benclymer for putting up a Game 5 Utah vs. Bulls ‘97 Finals-type game. If you know you know.

Much love, grace, and gratitude also to my wife @jessicaaujero who works smarter while I work harder (and sometimes smarter) doing this creative stuff @hodinkee. The work really goes everywhere I go. The craft is always about joy, and the reward, is hopefully giving people something that equally brings joy…and yes, knowing your kid is wearing a Pusha T shirt in the 6th grade. That’s pretty legit.

Certain projects boil down to time and cultivation. It takes a lot of communication and feeling things out. #Sometimes seasons are better measured not in days or periods, but maybe…mixtapes and albums you loved, places you navigated, and how environments shaped you. Growing up in Chesapeake, Virginia (Virginia Beach’s quieter, more dormant town), this project was a big one…and hit close to home. Hope you enjoy - 🌊 by @dave.wavvy

For more than 20 years, @kingpush has made watches part of the story. They’re in the lyrics, on the wrist, and at the heart of Daytona. Now, he brings his collection to Talking Watches. Earlier this year, following @clipse landmark album, Let God Sort Em Out, and ahead of a worldwide run of tour dates, we had the chance to sit down and trace his lifelong fascination with watches. Between Reference Points, the companion piece on @patekphilippe split-seconds pocket watches, and a feature on the Victorin Piguet split-seconds, there’s well over 17,000 words of history, research, and collecting knowledge.

This felt like a good excuse to linger on the pocket watch details that had us enamored at first sight.
