I am extremely excited to finally share that our team’s second Love Death and Robots episode – Close Encounters of the Mini Kind – is premiering TODAY on Netflix!

Like LDR Vol. 3’s Night of the Mini Dead, Mini Kind treats viewers to a miniature apocalypse rendered in tilt-shift. Last time it was zombies, this time it’s aliens! I think we completely topped ourselves with this one, from the story to the humor to the animation.

Once again, I served as editor and provided much of the sound design. And once again, it was a ridiculously fun experience the whole way through. Working with directors Andy Lyon and Robert Bisi - and the rest of the BUCK crew - on both of these episodes has been the most creatively-fulfilling work I've done in my career. I feel very lucky to be a part of this crew!

Mini Kind was (if I'm not mistaken) the very first episode ordered for Vol. 4, thanks in part to the glowing reception Mini Dead received from fans and the show’s creators. We submitted our final cut about a year ago, after working on it in earnest for over two years. It's been a long journey to bring this lil' episode to planet Earth, but it's finally out there for all to enjoy! Check it out on Netflix today! 👽🛸

Been playing with an Olympus Infinity II 35mm camera for the last few months. I got a few rolls developed after my trip, here are some highlights! I'm still learning what the quirks of this camera are, (including a gnarly light leak that sometimes looks great), but some of them look pretty sweet! Autofocus has proven to be the biggest challenge so far. Excited to document more this summer!

I'm very pleased to share my first collaboration with @angiecarmellamoon in a very long time: "Softly," a music video she directed for @sundayworksmusic!

Angie gave me complete freedom to play with her and @bennykrown's dreamy footage however I saw fit. There was no story, script, or synced footage to guide my edit, so I followed my gut and focused on Angie's choreography to find a narrative. This was a fun exercise in creating a narrative in footage where there wasn't one, and I'm proud of the result!

The song itself is a gorgeous, hypnotic shoegaze-y track that falls pretty far outside my usual realm of music to edit to, which presented it own fun challenge. I think I was able to strike a good balance in keeping the edit timings in line with the pace of the song without being too repetitive.

Welp, the movie has been out for a week so I think I can finally discuss my first feature film credit 👀 Yes my friends, I'm delighted to share that I worked on the most critically-panned film since Madame Web: Borderlands!

We were brought in last year to create an animated intro sequence to better set up the film and establish its universe. I came on as editor to help set the pace along with my assistant editor Pete Szijarto, who set things up beautifully for me to take to the finish line. Our team was comprised of many of the same talented people I worked with on Love, Death, and Robots, and it was fun working together on what was essentially a creative rescue mission.

It wasn't much, but I can now say I've edited some Cate Blanchett voiceover for one of the worst-reviewed box office disasters of the decade 😌 See you at the Razzies!

The timeline on slide 3 is from an earlier edit, before all of the animations got stitched together. Nothing too crazy, but you can see the stack of sound effects and the various clips we used to see what worked best. The anims came in more piecemeal at first (track V2), but as timings got locked, the animators and compositors combined the various pieces into the longer clips you see stacked above. The final render came in as one long EXR sequence (slide 4).

Gonna post more timelines for my work in the future, thanks to some of my other editor friends for doing it first and giving me the impetus to rip them off 🤓 by @dave_conte
