Spent a few days in Austin investing in something that matters more as wealth grows: learning how to structure and steward a Family Office. Fourth year as a member, and a few takeaways worth sharing:

“Start with purpose, not money. The point of your family office is not simply to manage assets. It is to be intentional about what the wealth is for. It should create opportunity and security for the family while preserving the capital and the values behind it for future generations”

“The real goal is to leave the next generation not only assets, but the judgment, information, relationships, and discipline to steward those assets well”

“Your financial education should outpace your financial success by at least five years”

“The #1 regret of busy professionals is that they did not spend more time with their kids”

“The single worst thing for young adults is to think they’re going to be set for life without the personal growth that comes from meaningful value creation. Not paying your kids’ bills is showing real love. The goal should be providing a safety net, not a hammock”

“Every child should understand the weight and significance of the family they are part of. Not just the success, but the why behind it, the struggles, the journey, and especially the failures. They need to understand that life wasn’t always as easy as we may make it look”

I wanted to share this because it may give someone else an idea while they still have the chance.

My Dad has been living with Parkinson’s for more than 10 years. It’s been a difficult road for him and for our family, watching the disease slowly take away pieces of the life he once knew.

Legacy and impact have always mattered a lot to me, and I wanted to make sure my kids and future generations would have the chance to really know who their Grandpa was and what he stood for. So we decided to preserve his story through a “Legacy video”.

We spent two days recording conversations about his childhood, family, marriage, fatherhood, work, mistakes, lessons and the experiences that shaped him. We combined those conversations with hundreds of photos and videos from throughout his life and some of his favorite music.

It ultimately became an eight-part, two-hour documentary that our family will have forever.

We had a lot of challenging times growing up and it wasn’t easy. Maybe that’s part of what made this process so meaningful. It gave us the chance to look back differently, appreciate the sacrifices that were made, preserve the good, and hear stories my kids had never heard.

More than anything, I wanted my kids, and hopefully their kids someday, to be able to know their Grandpa in his own words.

If your parents are still here, consider recording their stories while you can. It doesn’t need to be elaborate or professionally produced. Ask the questions. Turn on your phone. Save their voice.

I wish I had done the same thing with my Mom six years ago. I don’t get that opportunity back.

Some of the best education happens when kids get a seat at the table

Invited my youngest to spend the day with me at Axia Partners HQ - sitting in on meetings, including an AI integration sesh, working on her own business “The Channel Candy Co, lunch and afternoon mtgs with investors, and getting a front-row seat to what a real workday actually looks like

I’ve done this with my kids for years and it’s still one of my favorite traditions. You can teach a lot - but it hits different letting them experience it first hand

She did, however, get to head home before the 2 hour tax strategy meeting to end the day 😂 taken in Axia Partners by @daveallred

Spent the last few days away from the office with the people that matter most - celebrating my daughter’s 18th birthday before she heads off to college next week

A few days celebrating her at our home in St. George then Backstreet Boys at the Sphere last night (debated sharing that part publicly…def not my vibe but the things we do for our girls!). Seeing how much they loved it made it 100% worth it

Hard to believe both of my older daughters are heading into this next chapter of life and will be out of the house. Everyone tells you it goes fast…then one day you realize they were right

Life is made up of NON-REFUNDABLE MINUTES and we don’t get to save them, buy them back, or use them later. Super grateful for this crew and these moments ❤️
